A Massive Trade for Red Sox fans
About 2 weeks ago I noticed a huge lot on Ebay of about 200 graded Red Sox cards from the late 90's and 00's. Right now my collecting focus is on building a high grade Red Sox Topps run, so this was a perfect lot that I needed to get in on. I put in an offer and reached out to the seller to introduce myself as I recognized he had the number one set on the registry. Immediately he responded and our dialogue began.
Talking and dealing with Jon was a pleasure. Right off the bat I could tell that there was a mutual desire to help each other out. Jon made it clear that his intent was to make a straight up trade, with little to no money involved. I knew I had some cards that could upgrade his set, but the card that really made everything possible was a 1975 Topps #616 Jim Rice RC in PSA 9. He needed one, and I had 2, so I knew we were going to make this work. Here is the list of cards I had that he needed as an upgrade or to fill a whole.
1965 Topps #74 Rico Petrocelli RC PSA 9
1972 Topps #30 Rico Petrocelli PSA 9
1972 Topps #113 Rogelio Moret PSA 8.5
1972 Topps #411 Bob Montgomery PSA 9
1972 Topps #455 Tommy Harper PSA 9
1972 Topps #681 Bobby Pfeil PSA 9
1972 Topps #724 A.L. Rookies PSA 9
1972 Topps #772 Ken Tatum PSA 9
1973 Topps Red Sox Team Checklist PSA 7
1975 Topps #616 Jim Rice RC PSA 9
1976 Topps #118 Red Sox Team PSA 10
1977 Topps #309 Red Sox Team PSA 10
1977 Topps #338 Denny Doyle PSA 10
1978 Topps #524 Bernie Carbo PSA 10
1979 Topps #3 RBI Leaders (Jim Rice and George Foster) PSA 10
Scans:
Jon offered up any cards from his set that could upgrade mine as long as I provided a replacement. I took him up on his offer with 3 cards, all of which were replaced with PSA 9's:
1974 Topps #495 Dick McAuliffe PSA 10
1974 Topps #590 Rogelio Moret PSA 10
1977 Topps #89 Butch Hobson PSA 10
The other 2 highlights were a couple of 52's that Jon had listed on Ebay that he took down for me. They were:
1952 Topps #54 Leo Kiely Black Back PSA 7
1952 Topps #255 Clyde Vollmer Black Back PSA 7.5
The rest of the lot is as follows:
139 PSA 10's
42 PSA 9's
10 PSA 8's
There was a vast array of players. Papi, Pedro, Pedroia, Manny, Nomar, Wakefield. In all, it added almost 10% completion to my set which sits at number 4 at just under 30% completion. Jon got one of the most sought after Red Sox cards in the Rice RC and a bunch of cards to bump him up a bit, but his set really is deep. At 90% completion it's definitely worth a look.
Thanks Jon, for being a truly honest collector, and a dedicated Red Sox fan! I'd be happy to deal with you any time.

Sounds like the deal was a win win. Congrats!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Appreciate today-

Nice to see a trade gone well for both involved. Of interest:the 1972 Bobby Pfeil shows him in a Phillies uniform I believe. Sox never wore pinstripes. Bobby played for Mets in 69,Phillies in 71.
Adam,
Wow, that sounds like an incredible trade! Congrats on moving up almost 10% on your completion as that's around 200 cards that you must of picked up.
I took a look at Jon's set and it is incredible.
