Generally, I don't care for toned coins.

But what is not to LOVE about some originally toning in a mint set!!!

Wow! They look terrific. It reminds me of what we used to be able to find with some frequency in the 1990s.

For some reason the 1958-dated silver coins seem to offer more frequently spectacular toning than other dates nearby. Anyone know why this is, or do you have a different experience?

1958 was a colorful year for some reason. Maybe they used a different type of paper in the mint sets.

Great set of toners - 58 was a great year.

Reminds me of an orphan set that I bought many years ago. Nice toners - BUT - two D boards and no P board. I was so enthralled with the toning that I didn't even notice. Tough to sell in that configuration.

No. There are a P and D set. Both boards are there.

Nice set! Check the Quarter to see if you also have the "B Type". On the reverse, if the letters, ES in the word states are separated, then you indeed have the B Type. Again, Nice '58 set!

Very Nice Set. You need to get the coins into inert holders so that they don't tone any further. Having them graded and encapsulated would be what I'd do with the colorful coins.

    Pretty set.

In my experience 95% of the 58 sets were issued in the light green papers. Yours are pink which is notable. I've felt the pink papers have been responsible for the most exotic toning I've seen on 58's and 57's.

They don't always produce the highest quality toning or highest quality surfaces, just most exotic colors. I've felt the pink papers tended to push the surfaces of the coin which often resulted in one side being very ugly while one side is amazing, fingerprinting, broken up toning, even surface growths. But the most exotic. This is an example.

I'd like my copper well done please!

Good looking set. Hard to find them with the nice even tone like that. Most are dark and vary in eye appeal.

I do not sell coins, nor do I collect tarnished coins. However, looking at the growing premiums being paid for tarnish, I may just stop passing by these coins and make some profit. image Cheers, RickO

And 1957. I remember kryptonite comics selling a bunch of these years ago on ebay. I bought a few, but I sold them. :'(

Both '58-D Franklins came back MS-66 FBL, one of them with a star. The Washington graded MS-67, and the Roosevelt came back MS-66 * FT. The other '58-D Washington and Roosevelt, along with both pennies are on ebay now. I also have the whole '58-P board listed as well. The Franklins have FBL, and if nobody bids on it I will send them in also.

Maybe it was all the atomic testing. Used to be fun to watch those.
