    I sure do not see the underling 7. It should be visible in the lower 8 loop as

    well as on top of the 8.

    Like Bob said, the diagonal of the 7 should be visible in both loops of the 8,
    and will also make the 8 flat on top.
    I was lucky to find one, right in the 1918-D spot in my grandfather's Whitman folder
    (the one shown below is not mine).

    Not the overdate nor is the variety any kind of a great rarity except in high grade. Good to fine coins are easy to come by tho expensive. As can be seen from the images posted it's a very prominent overdate and easily identified even in AG-Good if you know what to look for.

    Not rare as coinqwest says and 2 years ago i bought an ngc good-04 1918-d nickel which was an 8/7 overdate and not recognized by ngc as such
