I love to handle Reeded Edge half dollars and I actively seek out any nice 1839-O Reeded Edge half dollar. This is likely my favorite issue from any coin series, but most of the extant pieces have problems or are otherwise aesthetically challenged. This piece has terrific arm’s length eye appeal, but it isn’t perfect. The color appears good and is a bit darker than the majority of the coins found while being fairly even on obverse and reverse while the remaining details are strong for the grade. The surfaces are pristine as anyone might reasonably hope for, but there is a streak of darker color across the bottom of the reverse that may be from storage or as-struck through something like grease. Regardless, it isn't prominent from every angle, but it is definitely there. If you prefer an achingly original 1839-O and are willing to have a slight color mis-match on the bottom of the reverse then this coin might be singing for you. $2,750.00
