Facebook has launched a "Marketplace" for selling items. Anyone plan on selling coins there?

I haven't been to my FB account in a year, probably. I average about a visit every 15 months or so, probably.

But a friend told me he sold some coins on FB recently, I think.

My knee-jerk reaction is that it would feel too Wild-West-y, like Craigslist. Not that I have any experience with either. I've just heard stories.

I agree... no controls... on the few coin pages I do visit on FB, there are many who are beginners and post coins that are either fake or poor condition - which, of course, they value highly - and who knows how many scammers are lurking. I will look at it, but not participate. Cheers, RickO

I've never sold but have bought some ancient collectors in the Groups dedicated for ancients. We even have auctions that work out well.

But this marketplace, I wouldn't try it.

Facebook is so FAKE and filled with novices and scammers.

I am rarely on it----maybe twice a week.

I talk to my real friends on the phone, in person or through texting

I'd be concerned about security/privacy issues, as well.

It's a mobile version only at this point. Eliminates me.

No. FB already knows WAY too much about me.

I don't think I'd sell anything out there, but there are some good coin groups out there on FB like the rainbow toned coins group and various help groups.

Those that constantly pooh-pooh social media or cry 'baaaaaaaah' at any suggestion of using social media for this hobby really need to look in the mirror when they wonder why they can't entice any YN's into the hobby.

Elmer, stop being correct all the time. The old timers think you're just showing off.

Seriously, I'm not one for social media in a big way but I do have a Facebook page for my business and understand full well that it's the only cost effective way to advertise. That said I've not looked into buying/selling coins on Facebook, yet. I'm assuming that PayPal is still the preferred method of payment but other arrangements can be made. Further, I assume at this point there's no sellers fee but that can always change.

If it's a logical alternative to E-Bay where you can't even offer a grading opinion to justify what you're asking, if you get only a few views in a 10 day period for underpriced coins and if the potential to be contacted to buy exists, I'm very interested.
If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

I have sold a few pieces of furniture and other household items through a local "tag sale" group on Facebook, but the venue is far too insecure to ever think of dealing in coins or precious metals there.

I think it's a good place for YNs and beginners to start, as there is some good info on some of the pages, and young people love social media.

But it's just not a place for the more seasoned collector for the reasons that I mentioned already. JMHO.
