Me too. Wonder if it's the same friend. image

I wonder if holedandcreative has one of these?

Holed key dates are "ouch" in the mainstream sense, but "heartbreakers" like this are like catnip to the collector of holey coins! Very cool!

Incredible how some people treated coins as just coins.

I saw a clerk at McDonalds yesterday actually TOUCHING the coins in the change tray without white cotton gloves and NONE of the coins were in slabs.

    Oh the humanity !!!

Even worse, I’ve seen coins being exchanged for goods and services. AT FACE VALUE!! Beautiful new ATB quarters are being smudged with fingerprints and worn down from contact with other coins, with no regard to how it will affect their future collector value. This certainly goes against the reason these coins were made in the first place.

It’s a drastic solution, but the only way I see to preserve our numismatic heritage for future generations is to require that every new coin be encapsulated by a third-party grading service immediately after it is struck. Remember, every coin deserves to be admired for its own sake rather than being forced to undergo the degradation of being passed hand to hand as if it were money.

Interesting coin - I can picture some pretty girl of that time period wearing it on a necklace. But a bummer it had to happen to a key date.

Yup, I think the hole kept people away. It was not advertised as a C mint, but you can see it peeking out. Actually, a plain 1841 would have been worth more, so I am not sure how it did not go higher. I ended up getting a nice offer on it, so already sold it.

HoledandCreative is a "friend/associate" of sorts. At least I feel like that, having met.
