It's the end of the quarter and they are trying to meet numbers. I said this would happen. Everyone else is looking in the rear view mirror and acting irrationally. Skate to where the puck will be, not where it is.

The December quarter coming up is historically their "slowest" so if you wanted to submit, now would be the time. If you wait until next year, then you get into their busy season and pallets of gold/silver eagles in monster boxes ahead of you.

Moderns should be shipped to the monkey house at the zoo for grading. Coins specially struck for collectors, handled by mint workers with gloves, special packaging, etc is not the same as a 100 year old coin that is highly preserved while being subjected to the elements of circulation.

If grading these requires any skill at all, it's pretty minimal.

The explosion of moderns has affected the standards on classic US coins; if the old coins don't have luster they are "cleaned"; also the fragmentation of hobby, not a good thing.

Just curious what statistical method PCGS may be using? I really like the fact they publicly report this which the competitors do not.

that's your opinion. They are claiming 20 business day turnaround for that tier and he got the grades in 5. Why can't you just be happy for him? The only tier with an issue is the slowest and cheapest tier. It was last posted as 40 days. Let's see what it is when they update the numbers later today
