NT or AT

I looked up this seller on Ebay and noticed that almost all his PCGS coins are toned with multi-colors. AT or NT? Is he toning in the PCGS slabs?

Lots of rainbow toners in PCGS slabs
I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

His pitcher takin skills have gone to the dogs. With some of those coins it looks like you have no way of knowing what you're really going to get.

    My biggest question is -

If you're buying coins via the internet then why settle for bad images that make you guess what the coin will look like when it arrives?

    This is unfortunate

I wonder what is going on with the new photo style.

My first thought was the pics look juicy.

    Wonky too.

If one was to purchase those coins... IMO... it would only be 'cash on approval'....Cheers, RickO
  • He does state, "With my auctions it's like holding the coin in your hand so if you like what you see in the picture you are going to like the coin in hand."

In the auction listings, he states, "I am a founding member of the Toned Coin Collector's Society." My question... Is the Toned Coin Collector's Society real or does it have a membership of 1? A Google search comes up completely empty.
    I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

Don't know this seller nor have any connection to him or his sales organization, but

this was posted ATS in 2004 and had some very well respected members at that time....Jim

A new coin collecting organization has been formed for those of you who enjoy collecting toned coins. We have called it the Toned Coin Collectors Society (TCCS). We will be holding our 1st formal meeting at the Pittsburgh ANA - tenative date and time of our inaugeral meeting is Friday, August 20 at 1 pm. Our goal is to promote the collecting of toned coins and will be primarily educational. A website and quarterly publications are planned. We hope to have a strong collector and dealer base to promote this segment of our hobby. We are an ANA affiliated club and hope to work with the ANA to promote this segment of our hobby.

If you are interested in joining and/or participating in our collecting and educational activities, please either PM me or respond to this thread. (PMs will be appreciated as I can review them even after this thread is long gone).

The following are some of the TCCS Founders and their forum handles (I think most are PCGS forum names, some may be the same on these boards)- (if I have left you name off this list, it is not intentional, please PM me and I’ll make the necessary additions).

Here’s a draft of the Mission Statement of the Toned Coin Collectors Society (TCCS):

    Quote:

To advance the numismatic knowledge of toned coins through educational, historical and scientific means; to assist in bringing together persons interested in collecting toned coins; to promote greater popular interest in collecting toned coins and in the numismatic study of toned coins; to aid its members through the study, acquisition and exhibition of toned coins; and to assist or encourage other worthy numismatic causes. The TCCS shall encourage and promote interest in the collecting and exhibiting of toned coins, conduct educational seminars and publish information regarding toned coins, cultivate friendly relations between society members, other collectors who collect toned coins and dealers of toned coins, and encourage and assist new collectors who are interested in collecting toned coins.

Additional concepts of the Toned Coin Collectors Society would include the following:

    1. To assist collectors in identifying, acquiring and preserving, original toned coins, with an emphasis on those toned coins that are particularly eye appealing.

    2. To provide information to collectors and potential collectors of toned coins on such topics as pricing, the concepts of acceptable eye appealing toned coins and sources of available toned coins.

    3. To provide a means for collectors who are interested in acquiring original toned Coins to interact with dealers and other collectors who have toned coins for sale.

    4. To maintain archival data of different categories and classes of original toned coins, with emphasis on the most spectacularly toned pieces.

    5. To assist and provide research as to the nature and characteristics of original toned coins, including the different sources of toning, the toning process itself and the variations in toning characteristics.

    6. To assist and provide research as to the availability and variations of color, grade availability, including eye appeal factors by date and mint for particular series of coins (like Morgan dollars, Franklin Halves, etc).

    7. To facilitate the exchange of information among dealers and collectors regarding the above enumerated aspects of originally toned coins so as to enhance the collecting and study of originally toned Coins.

    8. To assist and encourage the collecting of toned coins by working in conjunction with the ANA and the ANA’s Young Numismatist program and to provide resource information and examples of original toned coins.

    9. To attend, participate in and conduct educational seminars to teach and assist those persons who are interested in learning about all aspects of collecting toned coins.

This is a work in process, so your thoughts, suggestions and comments will be appreciated.

sad really another level for this seller.

In the past I had bought many coins from this seller that were imaged very well in all cases an accurate picture of the coin in hand. The sellers images as of today are not professional and are very poor who knows what the coin really looks like. Speculation on my part but the person imaging in the past is not on staff now due to some perhaps obvious reasons.

sad as the seller had such a good history and a few of my favorite coins came from this firm.

The person behind the Ebay seller "KryptoniteComics" isn't listed in that list of TCCS founders, yet he says he was in his Ebay auctions.

I do not understand this thread. The seller linked sells for themselves and on consignment. I seriously doubt anything was done to consigned coins. The pictures seem the same to me, just eBay thumbnail pictures have lower resolution to allow for more advertisements and sponsored links. When a list of SOME of founding members of an organization does not include a person, it does not mean that person was not involved. When in doubt, I look at the locked 'rules' thread to see what I am missing ->

Rule 3) Anyone attacking another poster or making disparaging personal remarks will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.

Rule 4) Anyone making libelous remarks concerning any individual, any company, or any other entity will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.

Nobody is attacking this seller. I asked whether the coins are AT or NT as almost all the coins are PCGS holders with suspicious toning. And yes, there is some "depth" to this seller as there have been some issues regarding integrity.

    .

ironically, i just dug out the goodman book. 2nd edition. glad i did.

my images and efforts have been less than desired in recent months.

it is up to me to change this.

unfortunate to see the listings i did. will hope he turns it around given what seemed to be a big following of buyers/consignors.

My guess is: He sold his camera, and is shooting on his phone. Still better photos than I shoot most days.

Things must be very bad for him financially to sell his camera equipment, which he used (at least at one time) as a source of income. I sure do miss the days from years ago when I could mail all of my stuff off to him, forget about it, and receive a PayPal payment in a couple of weeks.
