Transition from dealer to collector.....

Had a comment in another thread about my ...well.... sorta..."flightiness" now that I am transitioning BACK to collector.

As a ...dealer.... it was far different.

I realize NOW that I ....should.... have kept goodies IN STOCK.

If only to serve as ...bait.

When I first opened, I kept a big bust $10 in the case for "show."

And to lend legitimacy to my shop as something a ..BIT.. more than a place to come in for a PROOF SET FOR THE GRANDKIDS!

Oof. Not my most dealing fun. B&M inclination is to buy from the public (and you know what THOSE coins are) and just wholesale the ...stuff.... on the teletype.

Which kinda took my focus off of RARE coins.

NOW.... returning to collector status. (mining old sources, of course

) I have gotten not only more selective, but even a bit....unfocused.... on WHICH coins to get.

As I just recently sold off what I ...used to... think of as what I wanted, I am now finding myself going off on tangents that I create by getting new stuff.

It's fun.

But it's counterintuitive to the "dealer" side of my noggin.

And....so.... I switch from area to area of collecting.

That ain't a BAD thing.

So that's the story and I'm stickin' to it.

Nice story. I find my interests are a bit eclectic too. To me, I like that, I don't feel "Stuck" in one series. I just buy whatever looks attractive to me.

While I have other sources of income, sales from the coin business help in other areas. I enjoy coins and currency but everything is for sale, assuming its positive P&L.

I have never been a dealer....however, having been a collector for so long... I no longer try for 'sets' or 'series' and just buy what appeals to me.... seems to be like what you are describing at this point in your numismatic evolution... Cheers, RickO
