The "Dog" Bounty Hunter...

joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 17,475 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi guy's, This weekend I'll be like the "Dog" and setting a bounty on two particular coins. I'll be in search for the two 2000P Sacagawea Varieties. The "Wounded eagle" and of course the "Goodacre Cheerios" coin. I realize the latter will almost be next to impossible to hunt down but who knows? What do you guys think of my chances to find one or both? Mind you, this will be at one of the BIG shows, so I figure I might have a shot? Thanks guys in advance-joey

I have no idea. Do dealers actually bring Sac's to big shows. I mean they usually bring the better stuff and not common modern stuff.
  • LindeDadLindeDad Posts: 18,766 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Yeah them are common stuff.
  • joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 17,475 ✭✭✭✭✭
Common? Have you guys checked the prices on these varieties? Esp. the "Cheerios". Only 5000 punched out. At one time, the 1937 Buffalo was "common" until we discovered one of the bison's leg was missing.image

I like showing my Wounded Eagle off to non collectors who will usually say I have some of those in my drawer at home. I have had a few Wounded Eagles in my past collection, normally upgrade when I can. Here is my most recent edition.

They are out there, you just gotta track 'em down. The Cheerios Dollar would be a bit of a stretch.

Yes, they are the same. You might be thinking of the Lincoln Cent from the "Cheerios" cereal boxes? The Goodacres also came out of the Cheerios boxes.

There is the Regular Strike and three Major Varities of the 2000-P Sac

Cheerios Dollar http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/411990 "This different design had detailed veins in the eagles' tail feathers."

Wounded Eagle http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/506153 "so-named because of a raised die flaw that cuts across the eagle's belly."

Goodacre Presentation http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/99584 "...it was discovered that the coins that were paid to Glenna Goodacre were struck on specially prepared planchets and by specially produced dies. As a result, the Goodacre Presentation coins displayed a different appearance that was fairly transparent. The coins struck off these dies have a burnished satin like appearance and most notable, is the fact that the coins tend to be of much higher quality than most regular circulation strike Sacagawea Dollars from the same date and mint mark."

Those are two you will probably have to find online. I have not seen either at recent shows I have been to, but I have not specifically looked for them.

These may be modern coins, but they are not common.

I know these varieties are not common.

I assumed you were wanting to cherrypick these out of regular stock.image

Sorry you took it the other way. I would actually like to have a "wounded Eagle" for my variety type set, but don't want to pay the variety price.

Crap, I got all excited cause I was pretty sure I had one of these Cheerios sets somewhere. I ran and dug it up and mine only has the penny...

Cool! Yeah, I don't blame you for paying that price. That's where Cherrypicking comes. Labor to seek cheap than sell high!

The Cent (from the Cheerios box) is highly sought after as well.

If they are still in the original packaging, I have seen that PCGS, NGC and ANACS certifies them with the Cheerios attribution. I don't think that the value is worth the slabbing and attribution fees though, unless you have a 67 or better.

LOL. The Cheerios Cent can be bought 24/7/365 at eBay for under $2.50.

True, like mentioned, the Cheerios Cent is valued a lot less than the Sacagawea. However, If you find the Cent in a high grade (also mentioned) or if one can find the Wide A.M. variety! Without the A.M. variety, I seen one graded by NGC for $5000! A 68 grade.

The hunter was foiled! No such luck in my quest for the "Cheerios" and/or the "Wounded Eagle".
I did go through at least 100 coins but nada. That's o.k. Us Cherrypicker's must deal with failure as the same way with success. Maybe I'll try tomorrow?image

I have never heard of the either of these. I wish you luck and a safe venture.
