Big Thank you to WTCG

MICHAELDIXONMICHAELDIXON Posts: 6,765 ✭✭✭✭✭
At the Gettysburg Show we had a new, young dealer who is trying to break into the business. This was his second show with the first being the Hagerstown, MD show. I strategically placed him next to Bonnie Sabel, Greg Bingham and WTCG. He learned immensely from all three and I would like to publically thank Wei for taking the time for mentoring him in honing his grading skills, and making him feel comfortable as a dealer.

Whenever this young dealer called for a table, I told him who I was placing him next to so he could learn from them. Prior to leaving, he thanked me for placing him next to Bonnie, Greg and Wei and said he learned more than he could have ever imagined.

It is a sign of a true professional who takes the time to teach others the art of, not only grading, but how to purchase coins wisely, etc. This might sound corny, but it was heartwarming to walk the floor and see dealers taking the time and having the patience to teach others!

Thank you Wei, Bonnie and Greg. You inspired this dealer to, not only learn, but to continue setting up at shows!

Many offer suggestions on how to sustain and build the hobby. Not so many take concrete actions to make it happen. I think you did a service to everyone who enjoys numismatics. Well done.

Kudo's to all of you for helping the new guy along.

It seems odd to me that a new "dealer" doesn't know some basics identifying wear and/or grading. Cart before the horse? Hopefully they spent years being a busy and studious collector before taking this latest step.

Good to see you look after the YNs. Good mentoring is what it's all about.

I've only purchased empty blue boxes from Wei, but I've had the pleasure of spending some time with Bonnie and Greg at the Houston show 4 years ago. They went through my commem collection at time and gave me honest assessments on eye appeal and grades. It was like a 2 hr crash course class in commem eye appeal.

Helping others is such a rewarding, inspiring and beautiful thing to do.

I wish it would happen more often.

Very nice of the three dealers to help the young person.

I should have probably said: "Wei helped this young dealer hone his grading skills." I went back and corrected it.

Wei has been super with all I have known. He has personally helped me acquire some nice pieces, and has a relaxed, professional demeanor that goes over very well with numismatists of all persuasions. I heartily recommend him.

Even though he is a bit of a smart azz I miss his posts here. Especially the flyover ones : )

Wei always has time to share his expertise with me. I can imagine how lucky that young dealer felt to be in that location at his second show.

I will also give praise to WTCG.

I bought some very minor things from him and he treated me like I was a high roller.

The only time that someone mailed my package when I know he hadn't received payment yet.

Made me feel good that he trusted me.
