Very nice pictures! See, to me, these look like real coins, as opposed to some of the idealized "glamour shots" that are often taken.

And wow, what coins! Looking forward to seeing the reverses.

  • Yes, I agree. There are so many ways to capture a shot. This is how Id prefer photographs myself. But:

When doing our quarter book there actually was a good reason in how images were captured. Yes, they were more the "glamour style" because it brought out "all the areas well" for diagnostic purposes - contrast around all the devices appear more crisp. It also helps when you have high grade beautiful coins! (Actually, black and white works best for this reason, but that seems old school and color was used).

But in the end, I totally agree with your assessment Baley.

    WOW.

Especially the 1807 and 1818. Those are incredible.

The 1818 without tarnish (at least in the picture) looks awesome. Cheers, RickO

So there were or were not taken on an iPhone? They are great and so are those coins!
  • Sorry for the confusion. I photographed these with a SLR, not an IPhone. I was browsing my IPhone yesterday and transferrd what few I had handy to the forum. I know there is photographic talent out there, but I don't think the optics nor technology of an IPhone has quite matched the SLR just yet....I'm sure it might some day.

Back to Mr. Newman and his quarters....I am so honored to have been an invited guest to see Mr. Newman. Our visit was fantastic, the quarters were amazing (I remember Eric's words: "I've got some quarters that will knock your socks off!" and they sure did!). I'm glad I had an opportunity to hold and study each one before they were encapsulated.
