Gettysburg Coin Show update

The National Battlefield Coin Show in Gettysburg, PA was this Friday and Saturday with dealer setup and early bird on Thursday. 96% of the dealers had a great show and have committed to return. Unfortunately, you have a few who are not "people persons" and they had a mediocre show. Over 1,000 individuals signed in for the 2 days.
Everything from bullion to type was selling, low dollar to 5 figure coins. I bought several coins; 1884 O MS64 Morgan dollar COMPUGRADE, 1837 Feuchtwanger Cent, ANACS AU53 (Old small holder), 1876 CC Seated Quarter PCGS VG8 and a beautifully toned 1887 P Morgan dollar (which I immediately sold). I talked with Rob and Robbie (shortgapbob) from Reeded Edge and looked at those awesome toned Mercury dimes and Morgan dollar they have. Robbie showed me an 1893 S Morgan in PCGS AU50 that has a prooflike reverse and is very original. Those coins are very impressive. Argent group had some spectacularly toned commems, as did Sabel Rarities/Coin Ace. All the dealers had some great coins for sale, and I talked with and looked at everybody's inventory.
As for food, breakfast and dinner was in the hotel free for the individuals staying in the hotel. Actually, both were very good. I normally had breakfast with Geoff from ANACS, Pat from Pat and BJ Coins and Pat Blasdel from Mr. Pat's Coins from Owego, NY. Dinner was with Ed from Running Bear Rare Coins, Bill from BJ Knuckles Rare Coins and my wife. This time my wife had a couple days off and came to the show with me on Thursday evening and Friday.
I met several board members and saw several who frequent the show regularly. Security was very efficient and Keith and Dirk will be handling security in Hagerstown at the November show.
The 2017 National Battlefield Coin Show will be held on Sept 14-16 in the entire Ballroom at the Eisenhower Hotel. From now on, the show will be held in the ballroom. There is not as much room as in the All-Star Event Complex, but it is nicer, directly in our hotel and was well received by attendees.
My show reports are not as eloquent as others, but hopefully you get my point. If you were there, please post your feeling about the show.

Congrats on a successful show.

If you ever go to Gettysburg, make sure you eat at Historic 1776 Dobbin House Tavern
There is a Tavern or Pub below that is simply amazing. The employees dress in period clothing and the setting really makes you feel like you just stepped back in time.

Thursday, This day was dealer to dealer day, At first I was not looking forward to this day, however when some larger dealers showed up things went good.
I am always amazed that larger dealers are ALWAYS will to pay higher prices than what the general public want to pay? I looks like everyone has a greysheet and thinks they can get good
coin at greysheet bid. That just does not happen for nice looking coins!
Friday, There was a good number of people but not a match for what I have, As an example many were asking for 1/4 oz Gold Eagles at melt, again that in not happening and many did not know that some years are worth MUCH more. One vest pocket dealer said that no on was paying that money, this was just after I sent a dealer from CA. some of those and in fact some were at over bid. That is just the market.
Saturday, I was surprised that the same size attendance purchased much more than the day before, However had the same number or people asking for the 1/4 oz gold eagles, I did not sell any. I just wanted bid and if that is too much I will just keep them for myself.
I was not trying to buy anything, but did abuy 3 mint sets (1955, 1956, and a 1957) some have nice toning in them!
The staff was very helpful at set up and closing,
A BIG thankyou to all the staff
PS I can't believe how much some coins have dropped in the greysheet, but in fact are selling for much more.
Alan, I love those pictures of the road leading into/out of Gettysburg. The fences and farmland reminds me of where I grew up in southern West Virginia. Thank you for posting them!
