Post Something Black in Honor of my Black Cat

My 20.5 year old black cat, Seryozha, passed away on Tuesday, my girlfriend found him on a freeway in Houston in early 1996, his rear left leg had been partially severed. I didn't want a cat and I asked my then girlfriend to take him to Animal Protection later that week. When I got to her school and picked her and the cat up to go home somehow the thought of taking him to AP got forgotten. He was about 6-7 weeks old when we got him, so forlorn and hurt of course.
A couple of days later we took him to the vet and had to have the rest of his rear leg amputated so he wouldn't get infections from the open wounded stump. I remember it cost something like $300-400 which was a lot of money for us then. He soon became very fiercely loyal to us and was a constant companion at home. He had curious habits of timing, like coming and reminding us about 930-1000pm that it was bed time. He always seemed to know when someone was ill or not feeling well because he would lay on them until they felt better.
We had him so long that he outlived two other cats and a dog, our other cat made it to 19 years and our dog to 16 years. He was the last connection to our old life in the south. His adopted parents married, and have been married nearly as long as we had him in our lives. His love for us manifested in our adopting two more black kittens last year so that his legacy will continue - their names are Lyosha and Tyeni.
So in tribute I request that something black may be posted in his honor, blackened silver would be very cool, but dark copper is nice too.

Similar to you, when the last of our "original" trio of cats died in 2010, it seemed to sever the last of our ties to our pre-marriage days living in NJ in the early 1990s. That last cat from our original trio was also a black cat who was incredibly social and vocal.
This Canadian quarter is toned so deeply that it appears near-black, though it has some navy and green within it.
RIP Seryozha.

Black, gold and silver....just how it looked in hand:
I too am down to 1 of my trio and sure do understand the place they hold in our hearts.

I had a cat that would announce bedtime too. He'd show up, look at me and meow, then go and lay down at the foot of my bed. Same time every day. (I now have a cat that demands his treats at the same time every day. I swear, some cats can tell time.)

Sorry to bump this old thread but just seen it. I'm from the Currency side and SaorAlba would post some interesting things over there. It's nice to see our pet parents (PC correct) post their condolences to SaorAlba, I'm sure he appreciates it. I would like to pass on my belated condolences. I lost my beloved Midnight about 2 years ago. That silly dog loved to watch, chase and jump and pop children's bubbles.

I am a huge dog lover. But none the less I feel your pain. Just remember you gave that cat a life. Not just a life but a very good life with plenty of love. Carry that one with you when you feel sad. I lost my little dog I had for 14 years and I know how it can hurt. but I also know I gave her the best home she could possibly have. Boy, 20 years plus. You musta took really good care of that cat
I'm sorry for your loss.
It's tough to loose family.

I lost my 20 year old back in March

Sorry for your loss, been there, it hurts to lose animals we love.
Beautiful Maine. Had one that looked like her.
So hard to lose your good friend....
Very sorry for your loss, SaorAlba. Heartwarming story.
I had a similar experience with our 6 week old kitten, in '93. She nestled under the hood of a car and miraculously survived after the engine was started. Leg severed and lots of flesh torn open. The emergency vet looked at my wife and me sorrowfully and said "that's a thousand dollar cat...". She lived 19 years and gave us a lot of love and happiness.

Sorry for your loss. We just lost our 11 year old shiba Inu earlier this summer, still feels bad when I come home and she isn't standing there waiting for me.
Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. We lost our rescue dog last week as well. He is my avatar now. My wife could not stand the loss that she went out and adopted a black cat a few days ago.
Sorry to hear of the loss of Seryozha. My family had a black cat, that lived to be 21 years, and had dutifully gone through many transitions with us- good and bad.

Sorry about your cat.
Thank you all for your thoughts. It has been a month and a half now, and it is still weird coming downstairs in the morning and not getting griped at to feed and pet the fury little beast.
Sorry for your loss SaorAlba
and our Mini has kinda reluctantly accepted her and although we are still in the dating stage, we can't wait until she settles down and will stay with us all the time.
This is Panthra, she's been around since we bought our house 3 years ago, when my Tigerboy passed a year and a half ago, she attended his funeral in the garden by our shed, and I know she knew what was going on, anyhow she comes over every morning now and will eat in our kitchen and just chitter chat away for about a half hour and then be on her way, she has left us gifts on the porch, if you know what I meen
It took me a few months to get ' sort of ' used to not seeing Tigger around. 20+ years do that. It's tough, we know how you feel. Still, condolences to you.
I don't have a picture for you but I want to say I'm sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss. We have no pets but my mother has had a few Bichon's and once they're gone I'm heartbroken for they gave me unconditional love.
