Jefferson Nickel Variety Of The Week: 1945-D DDO FS-101

Jefferson Nickel Variety Of The Week: 1945-D DDO FS-101
I was pleasantly surprised when this variety was added to Cherry Pickers, which then makes its way into the Complete Variety Sets. I've been looking for this one for many years once I found out this 1945-D DDO-006 has multiple Die Pairings. It's pretty cool seeing 2 coins with a confirmed identical Obverse with 2 different Reverses. Maybe we could start assigning BigDowg Numbers to them?
In the long run, think this variety will be fairly common. The Pops already have 12 full step examples, 5 MS66 and 2 MS66+. There are not many non-full steppers yet, but I'm sure they are out there. 1945-D's are plentiful in super nice condition. Now the challenge is to find that first MS67FS example!
DDO-006 with RPM-005 (PCGS MS66FS)
DDO-006 with RPM-020 (PCGS MS66FS)
Regular Obverse with RPM-005 (Raw)
Regular Obverse with RPM-020 (Needed)

RPM-005 on Left and RPM-020 on Right. I'm still trying to stretch my imagination to see the RPM-020!

You have to be carefull, as there is another 1945-D that is a DDO with RPM-040. The letter thickness is not as dramatic as the DDO-006, as shown below. I hope our host and other TPGs don't start attributing these incorrectly.

With Cherry Pickers selecting this and the other "Thick Lettering" Doubled Dies (1939 DDO FS-101 and 1946 DDR FS-801) has exposed a broad audience to a type of variety that has been almost invisible. For you new variety collectors, the hunt is one!

Do you all have any Jefferson varieties that you would like to see or know more about? Try me!
Actually yes.. I have a 1943-P that is the FS-102 and was just added to Cherrypickers' Guide. It came back as MS-65 FS but did not get attributed. I don't see many in the pop reports yet. Do you think they are just tough to find or maybe just not popular to submit? My MS-65 FS if it gets attributed will be tied for a top pop.
jtlee321, did you ask/pay for the FS-102 attribution? There are only a handful of varieties that PCGS attributes without the extra fee, for the most part these are the "Major" varieties like the 1939 DDR, 1945-P DDR, 1954-S/D, etc. The Pops on this variety right now is low, so this would be a great coin to have attributed. It would be a Pop 2 coin in MS65FS. There are 2 MS66's non-FS. I have not had an opportunity to see an FS example. Might you share a picture?
I did ask for expected to pay for the attribution on the FS-102. The coin was sent to GC for consignment and then they sent it to PCGS for grading and attribution. I sent a PM with photos of another example I have that is FS as well, although not quite as nice as the one I sent to GC. I did not shoot the coin at GC unfortunately.
You mean PCGS failed to attribute properly? No!!!! Say it ain't so!!!
Well they did get 7 out of 8 nailed. I would much prefer 8 out of 8 though..
The 1943-P DDO is very similar to the 1945-D DDO that started this post!
