I received my 2016 Standing Liberty 2016 Centennial Gold Coin with pics

I had to sign for it. Normally UPS guys are in a hurry but this guy had all the time in the world.
He says "It's nice to have a new toy. Normally it's better to wait before getting one because the price can go down and the early ones may have a problem so I like to wait a month."
I'm assuming this guy is coin collector, but I don't like talking about my coin with the delivery guy.
He's telling me he has a son 18 and a daughter 22 and they are all going to wait before ordering one. He explains he's divorced but the kids live with him and on and on.
Eventually he says that he used to order from Verizon, but tells me why it's better to buy from Apple.
So I realize we are talking about an iPhone 7 and not my gold coin.
I also had a FedEx guy once delivering a $1,500 coin and wanted to talk about my Sego Palm by the front door. It was bent and up against the house and he wanted to rescue it. Eventually I told him he could have it if he replaced it with another plant just so he'd give me my coin and go away. Later I found out it was a $750 plant.
Anyway, I haven't opened it yet. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it but I do want to look at it.
I see they are still available at the Mint.
So I opened the box. It's just a tad smaller than a quarter and looks pretty cool. Plus it's got the fancy box you only find downtown at the finer shops.
It seems to have some marks on the reverse field in the center

Thursday night we were watching TV at 9:20 when the doorbell rang. UPS man apologizing for being late. Apparently there had been mechanical trouble on his truck and they ended up transferring everything to a new truck. He still had 12 more stops to do.

UPS workers are paid very well, I was talking to one recently who said with overtime he can make over $100K a year! Generally very professional.
He wasn't my regular UPS guy. He was professional, just liked to talk.
They are timed on their routes and normally they run back to the truck.
He said he had a customer trying to get a job there for over a year, and he told him that he got his son a part time job there in 3 days, so the guy wasn't happy to hear that.
So it's a good job, but seems nepotism is involved.

Are those scratches or lint above the eagle?
Upon further review, it is lint.
I wiped the capsule and took another picture and it went away.
Thanks - you saved me $4.95 in postage to return it.
I never wipe down slabs and wind up with stuff on them in my pictures.
I see there is a new little spot on the capsule on the breast.
Why doesn't the US Mint use US Mail?
For street addresses? No idea. They still do (obviously) for PO Boxes.
Why doesn't the US Mint use US Mail?
They do but your are right. It should be one, or two, of the choices. 1st Class or Priority Mail.

Methinks the Navel is clearly there and almost a bit of breast augmentation near the center.
Happily warm and content and sealed, my girls remain clothed.
Why doesn't the US Mint use US Mail?
Because the fulfillment company is not the US Government. PFSWeb is an end-to-end fulfillment company contractor, who probably uses the same shipping methods for the score of other companies who use their services. (Even the stores in Washington, Philly and Denver aren't run by the mint, but an outside contractor, I believe.)
Moneyfactory (Treasury Dept.) I believe uses USPS, as does the USPS. (duh!) But the mint's numismatic collector products aren't sold to the public by the government at all.
I really like your photos, BackRoad!
Thanks.
This one was turning out really well until I started processing the reverse and saw that stupid rim ding/problem at 6. (Almost invisible at real size, but looks like crater at 33x...) Since I was 80% done, I finished the images anyway...
Other than that, the coin looked perfect. A 70 fer shur. I hope the replacement looks as good. Without the ding.
Yep. Perryhall pointed this out when I first posted the image in the centennial gold thread.
I don't know SLQ's. Has anyone done a comparison between a real 1916 and the repro yet? I haven't seen one. (Then too, I've been recovering a really, really broken harddisk...)
Wasn't one supposed to become a pocket piece?
Wasn't one supposed to become a pocket piece?
You are correct, sir!
Out she comes. Time to wear down the insignificant details.

Be careful that you don't lose it. It's not a very big coin.

I remember being surprised by the diameter of the 2009 Saint too, but I learned to love it. ??
Indian Head $10 Gold Date Set Album
Anyone know why the gold quarter is not the same diameter as a quarter?
I remember being surprised by the diameter of the 2009 Saint too, but I learned to love it. ??
It's punched out on a 1/4 ozt AGE blank. The dime was on a 1/10 AGE blank and the half will be on a 1/2 ozt blank. I pretty sure that was done not only because the weight matches the percentage of a dollar for each coin, but because it'd cost to much to source the plachets to match the silver versions.
Edit to say: Not AGE blank, but a Buffalo blank. Even when they did fractional 24K Buffs, they were the same diameter as the AGE, but a different thickness.
If you compare the size statistics of the centennial gold to the 24k Buffalo fractionals, they're the same.
Since this is a non-mandated issue, they have to really control the cost of the thing. Including the profit margin to keep the store alive.
My wife surprised me 2 days ago when she handed me the black box that she had ordered.
I'd had mentioned it to her and showed a pic on the net a few days prior to the sale and took out my SLQ set in a plastic Capitol holder.
Set was considered completed without the 16 + overdate over 30 years ago. Reverse of one coin was in the '16 spot to show the reverse and a duplicate '18 in the overdate hole,k grades are generally VF+ for the early dates and au-unc for the later dates.
The qtr. probably reminded her of the early days of Sunday rides to coin shows and spending $15-25.
Hoard the keys.
Am 99% sure I won't order the Walker as I only like the quarter design.
No dime wanted.
BUT.... it's making me analyze my collecting and I'm not sure I like it.
This coin will go..... IN THE BOX... IN THE BOX.... and other than knowing I own it, it won't affect me emotionally or historically or ...really.... much of anything.
Other than ...owning... the thing.
And.... that's uncomfortably close to some other actual NUMISMATIC things I ...own.
Could be age. Hope not. Still love coins. Will still collect new ones.
But from here on out.... .they're gonna have to be COMMANDING pieces to get ordered.
gulp.
