Gold SLQ die crack

air4mdcair4mdc Posts: 938 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was a little nervous as I opened the packaging to my gold SLQ today. it seems as if every gold coin I purchase from the USM is hairlines, spotted, grease spotted or just plain marked up. Those coins were sent back for refund or replacement. So when when the dime came out I decided to just purchase a PCGS 70 stabbed. So, after giving the USM another chance I get one with a die crack, as it appears so far, inside of Liberty's right breast up to the lower part of her neck. Tomorrow I will put my scope on it to get a better look and a picture. When will I learn they will never send me quality stuff. Anyone else hear of the die crack? I have heard of some with spotting and flow lines. Any thoughts on keeping this piece of gold or sending it back? Coin is clean otherwise. Thanks.

I'm not sure it could be a die crack in such a short distance and not extend to the rim. Maybe struck thru a fiber or short thread? Would love to see a picture.

Due to having to go into work tonight I didn't get a chance to open the case and put my scope on it to get a true 200x magnification look and picture. But I did use my 5x and good light and it looks raised. I will be sure and follow up this post with the results. Thanks for your interest. Watch it be a hair........eeks. Eyes are getting worse as I age.

Interesting... since it is a gold coin, it may be worth keeping... depends on what you find under magnification...We impatiently await your pictures....image Cheers, RickO

I had a strike thru on the cheek of my gold Merc Dime and it had a finned rim as well.

Depending on the severity of the die crack(s) it might be worth a premium...

Sorry it took so long to reply back folks, had a busy weekend here. I did put the Dinoscope on it tonight and it appears to be a strike thru or a scratch. Even with 200X magnification I cannot tell if it's a scratch or a strike thru. None the less it's noticeable and I'm not sure if I want to keep this coin. I would post a pic but I'm sure it's not very interesting to see. Plus I don't know how to get the picture off the Dino program. I could use my camera if anyone is interested. Thanks for everyone's input. Wish I did have a die crack I would probably keep it. Thanks again all.
