It never needed to be outlawed before because there was never a problem of men wanting to use women's bathrooms before the last few years. Please don't try and say men have been using women's bathrooms for 100 years, because that hasn't been happening.
Now, humans have been on earth for a very long time. You say transgender people have been around for only 100 years. I wonder what has changed?
Now, do you really believe child predators will not use this newfound access to women's bathrooms to gain access to children? If you don't believe that, you have been brainwashed by the left. Sorry.
I never said the issue was with transgender people. The issue is with predators posing as transgender people and hurting children. The "situation" is allowing people into bathrooms for which they are the wrong sex. You CANNOT definitely prove whether someone is or isn't transgender. Can't do it. So, you cannot police who should or shouldn't be in a particular bathroom unless you use their birth gender. It is very easy for a child predator to lie their way into the wrong bathroom and lie in wait.
The difference between now and 100 years ago is that transgenders are being allowed into opposite sex bathrooms and locker rooms. This poses threats whether you want to acknowledge them or not.
People are so worried about "feelings" that they are willing to allow dangerous situations to occur.
They've always been allowed.
You mean it was never enforced. Just recently some creepers at certain stores including target were recording naked teen girls.
"never a problem of men wanting to use women's bathrooms before the last few years", what do you think transgender people have been doing prior to this bill? They have been using the bathroom for the sex they identify with. However in a desire to distract the conservative sheeple the NC politician created an issue out of a non-issue in the guise of safety.
Passing the law changes nothing about the behavior of predators. Predators have been sneaking into bathrooms for the opposite sex as long as there have been bathrooms. You simply concocted a scenario about some fictional predator that plans to use the lack of transgender bathroom laws to their advantage. Somehow that "scenario" hasn't actually played out in a court of law anywhere there are not transgender bathroom laws in place, ie the entire US until NC passed their bill. Show me one successful defense by a sexual predator where they claimed to be transgender and were caught in a woman's bathroom? The actual defense has always been "I went into the wrong bathroom by accident", that defense is still valid in NC unless you plan to arrest and incarcerate any drunk that makes a mistake or any person that isn't paying attention. The idea that predators would have to resort to claiming they are transgender to get away with loitering in a women's bathroom is just plain stupid when cluelessness (ie it was an accident) is a far more effective defense.
How does NC plan to enforce the law? Are woman now required to bring their birth certificates when they want to use an NC public bathroom? Will they be strip searched before entry is allowed if they look too manly? Are there going to be police monitoring every public bathroom validating birth certificates for any woman that doesn't look or act womanly enough? If not how exactly has the law made anyone safer? In the end NC passed a law that has zero practical effect on women's and children's safety.
As for the link those were dressing rooms, the law being discussed is for bathrooms. That type of behavior (voyeurism) has always been going on and has always been illegal (it is also still illegal in bathrooms even for the 49 states that don't have transgender bathroom laws). Additionally it is not like shared dressing rooms are anything new. I can't think of a store I have been at in the last 10 years where I used the fitting room that had segregated rooms (ie one set for men and another for women). However I don't do a ton of clothes shopping so maybe same sex fitting rooms are more common than I know.

I think you are a bit naive. Of course this new national "emphasis" on the transgender topic will give predators more access. So sorry if that hurts your feelings. Simple voyeurism is the least of many people's worries.
The bathrooms are just the beginning, already there are rumblings about transgender students being allowed to use opposite sex locker rooms at high schools.
It all boils down to people creating their own reality. If someone says they feel they are really a girl born into a man's body, who can deny that? There is no medical test to prove it. ANY predator can make the same assertion to gain access to places they don't belong. And they absolutely will gain access to places they don't belong to hurt our children regardless of what you hear from lefty think tanks and media.
Sorry people's feelings get hurt, but some things are just dangerous.

Craig44 we are discussing the specific law not your fears for the future. Folks on both sides of the aisle always invoke some dystopian future that is predetermined if we start down path X or Y. I am still waiting for ebola to wipe out the masses in the US because we failed to prevent flights from a few African countries to land in the US. Of course I am also still waiting for the polar icecaps to melt and the Eastern seaboard to sink into the Atlantic because of the ravages of global warming. The future is never as bad as the scaremongers paint it out to be.
As for the NCAA they are not forcing their beliefs down anyone's throat. They are simply not allowing North Carolinian lawmakers to force their beliefs on the NCAA.

Its no secret that the people who run the NCAA lean pretty far to the left. This isn't the first time, and nor will it be the last they will try and force their liberal agenda down our throats.

I don't think college athletes should be punished because of a bunch of politicians. McCrory is up for reelection as are many of the republicans in the state house and the feeling in NC is that they will be voted out. The bill will most likely be overturned as soon as the Dems gets in office. Also, HB2 is not enforceable. There is not even a penalty on the books if you get "caught" using the wrong restroom Plus it's not like the police are standing outside of restrooms watching who goes in and out.
