The only way I'll EVER be able to afford a 1792 Half Disme is to get a net graded one.
I decided I can live with 98 Damage or 95 Scratch..... depending on the severity. I can live with one that is slightly bent or just damage that looks like it
might have been from circulation. Like getting run over by a horse & carriage....
In other words, damaged but in a "natural way."

Assuming the price is fair, the amount and severity of problems I'll put up with is directly proportional to the rarity of the coin.
Also, depending on the feature(s) of the coin that are important to its identity (small eagle on early silver for example, or the PUPs on a rare die variety), I'd actually rather have a mid-grade coin with some minor damage, than a "problem-free" coin in a grade like Poor or Fair. (I put problem free in quotes, because in such case, I'd view the excessive wear as a bigger problem than a small scratch, rim ding, light cleaning, etc)
no, i wont buy it. if im going to spend that type or kind of money ill wait to get something that i like and can live with. ( a planchet flaw might be remotely acceptable )
I chose 91 "Questionable Color", it could be sent in later on, cracked out of course, and given another go round with (hopefully) a different group of eyes.

I'm willing to accept more problems when I buy 1792 half dismes, Gobrecht Dollars, 1933 Eagles, and 1804 Dollars than when I buy 1881-S Morgans.
This....
Plus, I think I'd have to see it. Not sure a poll captures all of the possibilities that a "scratch", or "altered surface", etc. could include.
Some are perfectly presentable pieces....some are just this side of becoming spacers to prop up a table leg.

Cleaning is next.
Then the rest.
Holed or plugged is the worst for me, but if coin is rare and price is right....OK.
The look overcame the "damage" and in this case, I'm not sure if the damage is even significant.

It says on the holder NOT GRADED.
