1849 1/2 Eagle California Gold Coin

I will add a picture later. Is there an easy way to determine if this coin is a counterfeit (which is what I think it is). I found it in a bag of world coins that I purchased at an auction. The pictures suck but it the best I can do right now.

Of course you can weigh it and measure it for starters.

Should weigh 8.4 grams be 21.6mm across.

A specific gravity test would help as well.....just google specific gravity video.

Post pics here for more eyeballs will be beneficial.

Pictures will help... experts here can usually determine authenticity very quickly with good pictures. Cheers, RickO

Looks like the fakes that I had when a kid, same color!

Wish I still had them and have collected in the last few years some of the copies that were made in the 50's and 60's

One of the people involved in the Confederate copies were involved with the coin shop that was in the neighborhood. Only coin I ever bought was an IHC that probably graded XF at best. All my circulation finds were well worn.
