His description info is entertaining also he states and gives the auction number to one that sold over $23,000 so his is a deal. If you do a search for other 9/11 gold there are others listing the same prices.

So this wasn't struck from melted 9/11 gold.. it was simply a coin they found in one of the vaults?

I like this part the best, "I'm was selling part of our family personal collection of coins to further enhance my son's education. Now sadly the funds are going to be used for legal fees to get my Porsche 914-6 back where she belongs. "

None of these 9/11 recovery coins was struck from melted 9/11 gold. They were all recovered from bank vaults that were largely buried beneath the blocks in and around the WTC towers and other buildings that were destroyed or heavily damaged during the attack. I don't know if any of these actually came from vaults below the WTC towers; they may all have come from buildings near the site.

Since June over 70 WTC coins show sold and none of them went for moon money like these listing attempts.

Back at the time, on these forums, they were sneeringly referred to as "Death Coins" by some, who thought the labels rather tacky marketing, IIRC.

With the 9/11 anniversary, I found myself thinking about these this weekend, and how I wouldn't mind owning one if it could be had for not too much more than spot.
