Wow, needs its own thread

Thank you to Peter Huntoon and Jamie Yakes

There should be three more 1935A's on the list: The XB, YB, and ZB experimentals.

Yes, there were XB, YB, and ZB experimental notes in the 1935A series, and it appears that not that many survived.

I recently found this article.

Not likely this quickly. Hopefully they'll have it, along with a few other numbers and varieties, in the next edition of the catalog.

    Let's see them,if you've got any!

I searched the entirety of the heritage archives and found precisely three Y-B notes (all UNC) and a single Z-B (circulated, in a Tuesday auction with a whole bunch of other 1935A silvers). No X-Bs.

Did you record the serial numbers ?

The notes involved were from specific serial ranges.

I am glad to see this new information I discovered and shared, useful. Thanks for your appreciation.

Alright, Bill, here's what I got:

    X-B: None

    Y-B:
    Y 0000 0033 B - I own this; from Dave Undis (also Heritage lot #12932 from 16-Aug-2010. PCGS 65PPQ)
    Y 0000 0101 B - Heritage lot #33333 from 14-Aug-2012 (AU - a couple of corner tip folds by the lot description)
Y 0000 0555 B - posted by synchr in the other thread. (I assume UNC?)
Y 0000 0600 B - Illustration note from the original article in BNR. Looks like UNC to me.
    Y 0056 3661 B - 3rd note in lot #33216 from 15-Sept-2009 (CGA66)

    Z-B:
    Z 0010 4218 B - 4th note down in the right column from lot #32142 from 14-Aug-2012. a well circulated example.

The Y00000555B note may be a good opportunity to cross over.

9 chances out of 10, PCGS was too strict and the note will grade Ch CU elsewhere.

I have also seen the note and agree it is Ch CU. Not sure what there seeing there to call it a 58.

There are no folds, creases or handling

Excellent YB! You could also take it back and appeal the grade to PCGS and make sure a mistake wasn't made.

Maybe they thought there was something not quite right with the paper... image

    I love 58's like that !!

So close to unc that it is unc. I watch for under graded PCGS 55's and 58's all the time for the same thing as the note above. When it comes to final price, these notes can often mean.... SOCRE !!!!

To buyers of these borderline grades: Check them first, and check them closely, as some notes are actual AU55 or AU58 notes, and sometimes the reason is not readily obvious (very soft fold).

Keep looking for them experimentals. More on those soon.

The reverse lower edge has a slight gather to the paper for an inch along as an extension past the register line.
Can't see it on the obverse but look at the reverse, lower left.

    Nice Robert.

Good luck finding the others. Their survival rates seem to be as of now, slim to none.
