Trying out a new (and REALLY tight) coin selection process.

Looking at what I have owned (and gotten tired of) and what I own and want to KEEP, I have a new "rule." image

When considering a certain coin, I ask myself if I would feel ...deprived... if I didn't get it.

This narrows things down a ...BUNCH!

I see nice coins that are just sweller than all heck, BUT....I wouldn't feel "deprived" if I either sold it or never got it in the first place.

Dunno if I can stick to this.

There are damn few coins of such beauty of design or so rare that NOT having one would make me feel..... deprived.

Do we take varieties into consideration with this new algorithm?

    I would say yes.

If it's special enough to YOU that you would mind if you didn't get it.

I had the images of 2 Barber halves on the desktop and kept looking at both and they were both nice, but I asked myself if I would really mind if I didn't have either one and he answer was no.

I have coins that are a lot less than 64 Barbers but I would hate to NOT have them.

    Maybe it's just a phase.

I ask myself if my wife would leave me for buying it. So far I'm still married.

    I like the concept.

I quite a few coins I would like to take home. Most I would not regret if I didn't. I will give this a try.

Most coins I buy - anymore - are ones I really want. Yes, I also buy a few 'just because they are nice'... Lately though, I have become much more selective. Cheers, RickO

I feel that way about a lot of coins in marquise auctions, or trophy coins in general. They ping the heart strings, but I ask myself if the price would deprive me of my workable income, which is usually the case.

That would never work for me. I buy the coins/deals that make sense to me, regardless of any emotional attachments that may accompany them. Of course, I do have a special safe deposit box for pieces that I have pulled out of deals because they have especially nice color and/or eye appeal, or have a great history. Even those routinely get sold, but only to my best customers, and only if a special request comes in.

I can't say I ever feel deprived about not getting a certain coin, but I have a process that helps me walk away from a coin at times. I just say to myself, I've gone 71 years without this coin, guess I can go a few more. LOL

    You might be overthinking this.

Only buy the ones you can take with you.
