One thing I can say is that I like the graded stuff you have in your cases already. To many times I've been in local shops and I feel like the owner is just trying to sell his left over crap. Stuff is usually beat up, off center and literally worthless unless you building very off grade sets. If I had a local shop with quality ownership that were fair and I felt really understood the hobby/market I'm sure if stop in it at least once maybe twice a week.
Originally posted by: Lefthander Nathan, please watch out for shoplifters. I'm serious. No matter where you're located, no matter who your customers are and no matter how you may trust them, there will be thefts. They are more likely to occur when you're manning the store alone and can't keep track of multiple visitors. I've known many card shop owners, and I've never known one NOT to be a victim of shoplifting on multiple occasions. There are "sleight of hand" artists that prey on having you remove items from glass display cases and then distracting you (perhaps with the help of an accomplice), and you've lost track of what they had you remove. These types work the conventions as well. You might consider enlisting the services of a trusted local kid (or better yet, a relative) to assist you. Just a word of caution from someone who has had many card shop owner friends experience losses.
Having been the victim of this myself at a local card show when I was a teenager with my own tables, I can't stress this enough. The best work in pairs, one to distract, the other to make the heist. Still pissed they got my 1989 Score Football Factory Set. CONGRATS on an amazing achievement!

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
Here are some more pictures from the Grand Opening. We bought things that range from an Atari 5200 sealed Pitfall video game to an MJ BGS 8.5 Rookie.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
This is a great shop and I highly recommend stopping if in the area or passing through on interstate 24 ..... I feel blessed to have two of the best card shop near me with Grandslam and Marty's sportscard superstore. The singles are priced extremely fair and a great selection of vintage wax and modern . Maybe next I stop by you can meet my little girl
Nathan, what a great new venture. I hope that it goes well for you and your wife. Looks like you are very successful so far.
My two cents is related to the online world in relation to the store. I am annoyed when I go into a card store and the workers seem more preoccupied by eBay or other online pursuits rather than to engage with customers. An engaged proprietor makes me want to come in and buy cards.

So true Nathanael.
Back in 1992, I went into a card shop with my son and asked if he had any Palmer RCs?
Never greeted me or anything - walked away - came back - and flung a few cards at me that were in top loaders and walked away again to BS with his buddies.
Me and my son looked at each other and walked out. Never wanting to return.
Thanks for the kind words. Look forward to meeting her.
Frozen and Stone that is great advice. The one thing we have going for us is we have been going to card shops for over thirty years. The majority are have taught us what not to do(be rude, aloof, low on cards etc.). However, a few have taught us what to do. So we try to be attentive and kind.
I don't want to sound arrogant but I feel confident we can make this work with enough hard work.

I'm sure you will do well Nathan.
That story was not directed at you but rather just an experience I had many years ago.
Back then shops might have been making all kinds of dough - the boom - and got just a little to independent.
And I'm sure you know where all those shops are today.
More pics would be nice if ya got'm tho.
Oh I didn't think it was directed at me. I will get some pictures together when we get back Tuesday. We have our first trade night Thursday so hopefully get some pictures from that.

Here is a few of our boxes. We should have about 50 different "new" products(2012-2016) right now on the shelf.
A customer hit these out of Panini Unparalleled.
A customer traded these two to me. The first is a card with 27 autographs from the 1972 undefeated Dolphins. The next is called a treasure chest and has 24 patches from young NFL stars.
We picked these up in a deal. One is a game used UT jersey.
Be back in an hour or two to post quit a few.

Nice photos. What kinds of items sell well for you down there? I would assume Titans, former Vandy and UT players... Anyone else in case I find them in my stash at home. Don't want to hear any Bench PSA 9 rookies or 1963 Rose rookies either
In the first few weeks Peyton Manning, Mariota, Derrick Henry, UT Vols. I am surprised how much memorabilia has sold. I even sold a game issued Matt Hasselbeck Titans auto'd jersey.
