The reverse is holding that coin back from a PL. Hard to tell, I must admit, from a pic and throught

the plastic. But, that's what I see.

The obverse sure looks like it would at least PL.

There are many one sided PL/DMPL's out there and I think this is one.

It's all about the fields. Can't see the fields in the pics so really can't say.

The reverse is not PL as mentioned. What is the current grade? A full slab shot is also easier to see the mirrors.

This coin is one of those infamous one-sided DMPLs. While sellers want to charge a large premium for the obverse DMPL, the buyer rarely gets it back when they sell the coin. The coin won't make PL or DMPL, so it doesn't help the slab grade or its Registry values. by the way, that is one really nice dollar, regardless of designation. I think it makes MS66 if you send it in again.

One of the finest DMPLs I ever saw was a one-sided DMPL. It was an 1878-s that was raw and sitting on a dealer's table at a Baltimore show (around about 2003). The obverse was a drop-dead black & white cameo, and it was fully MS65 DMPL, if not better. The reverse looked like any old MS64 without even a trace of PL character. I didn't buy it because the dealer wanted $150, and MS64 Morgans were worth $35 at the time. I knew it would just grade MS64 at PCGS, and I'd have to pay the submission fee just to get it into a 64 holder. At the end of the day, I've got a coin that cost me $185 and lists for $35. I never forgot that obverse, though.

If it were me, I'd keep the coin in its current holder.
It's not worth reholdering as the reverse is just "so-so".
It's a nice coin - yet, one of the most common dates in
    the entire series.

Leave it alone, save yourself some money and if you really
don't like the coin all that much, a new owner will appreciate
the older holder. Maybe you'll even get your purchase price
    back...how novel is that ?

    Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. You all (coin geeks)-term of endearment saved me a little dough and helped me come to the desision to break it out and have it live in my dansco type album with the "toners".

I don't think the reverse is PL, but it's hard enough to make that call even from good pictures. Also, keep in mind that PL standards were a bit looser back then.
