The only error on a DD I recall is a rim clip on the 55.

    1967 SMS quarter. FS-25-1967-101 (old 026.5)

Doubled die obverse (moderate), most with strike doubling as well. Hard to find without the strike doubling.

I've handled a 1955 double die cent with a tapered planchet AND a rim clip, and one struck 10% off-center in an old ANACS holder in 1998 or 1999.

I was thinking of Mike Byers (minterrornews) on this subject. He would be one of the few (including Fred Weinberg) that would have seen such an error coin if it existed.

I don't recall ever seeing a Doubled Die coin

    that was double struck.

There are DD's with small clips, laminations,

other minor errors, but not double struck or

wrong planchet DD's as far as I know.

I have in stock an interesting Double Struck

1831 Large Cent, with a full rev. Cud that

has the Cud on BOTH strikes....I think that's

    pretty neat and unusual.

  • There a bunch of 1970 D quarters with multiple doubling on them, but not double struck. I estimate there are about 100 of these dies. The total effect is not that spectacular unless you get exceptional rotation.
    They have:

Class III doubling from types F and G
    Type F series doubling
    Type G series doubling.
Subsequent hubbings did not snap into place so we have rotational or pivot doubling of varying degrees.
Doubling from manual retouching of the die
    Machine doubling

There you have 6 causes of doubling on one coin.

Now that would be an interesting coin to study.... Cheers, RickO
