Pair of 1796 Draped Bust cents

Here are two 1796 large cents from my collection. The first is a Sheldon-93, a more readily available variety for the date. I purchased it from Tom Reynolds many years ago. While it has some minor surface problems and a few marks, it is well above average for a 1796 Draped Bust. Those of you who have searched for this date know that the majority of them look like they are ground recoveries (and they probably are). The second is a LIHERTY error variety, Sheldon-103. The S-104 is by far the more common of the two LIHERTY die marriages, and any S-103 with nice surfaces will catch the attention of copper specialists in a hurry.

I feel silly for selling my 1796 Liberty Cap back in 2008 while I was thinning out my large cents. It would probably grade PCGS F12, and it had choice surfaces. I have also owned examples of S-109, S-110, and S-111. The S-111 was pedigreed to Sheldon and virtually every other well-known large cent collector going back to 1890. It had corroded surfaces, though, and I just didn't enjoy looking at it so much. I couldn't add my name to the pedigree on the paper envelope because the pedigree was so long that the envelope wouldn't fit any more. It looked like a bridge in NYC that got signed in spray paint by every gang member within 10 miles. LOL. I wonder who owns it now?
