Just got this today, and it was even better than I imagined. This is in an old light blue label PCGS 66 holder. Pretty snazzy, I think. Got it for a little bit under guide.

I very unfortunately sold that coin about 8 years ago. It is the one out of my entire previous collection I wish I had kept. But, you prompted me to change my avatar, so thank you!

Keets, your 39-D, and my 38-D and 39-D must have all come from the same kind of album as the patterns look extremely similar. I like how yours has the repeating ring of pink, like it thought it was done toning, and then decided to start again. I usually see pink on nickels as the terminus of the toning.

This thread reminds me of a set of Jefferson nickels that walked into our local brick & mortar shop in upstate NY back in the late 1990s. It was housed in a huge white plastic holder, and I think it went from 1938 up to 1964 or so. Every last coin was a target-toned, drop dead, monster headlight. There was nothing in there that graded less than "old-school" MS65, and the coins were perfectly matched to one another because they developed their toning while sitting in the holder. Whoever put the set together knew how to grade too, as the coins were gems with nice strikes. I wanted to buy that set in the worst way, but it was "spoken for." I think it sold for some ludicrous price, like $200 (sobbing sounds). I mean that was ludicrously high, as very few people wanted Jefferson nickels back then.
