There is also something funky at the top of Liberty's wreath near 12:00. Do you have close ups?

Well, it's either a spectacular RPD or post-mint damage. You may need a microscope to determine for sure when it arrives. Will keep my fingers crossed that you found something new!

It looks like, to me, that the right side of the '9'

has been sliced, upward, giving it that curved look.

    It's PMD, imo.

Fred, if that were true wouldn't the 9 look thinner than normal on that side, which it doesn't.

When I get it in hand I should be able to tell more.

    I'm seeing what I think is a flatter right-side portion of the '9';

that's where the extra metal might have come from.

It's either that, or something punched the surface just above the '9',

and left a 'hole' in the coin - the Curve is the metal raised from the hole.

    It's not a RPD, imo.

Looks like a "D" mintmark above the wreath; cool! I guess it pays to look through the junk on eBay; I normally just skip over well worn stuff. Please post pictures when it arrives!

I added 2 pics. Doesn't look like metal has been moved to me. The 9 doesn't look damaged at all.

It kind of looks like metal was added and then it circulated. Perhaps silve solder for some kind of a pendant mount? Just a guess (that you don't want to hear).

    .

i will concur with fred. ive seen and been fooled a couple times from this damage effect.

will say 95-5 pmd-variety cuz the images aren't sufficient for such determination.

    Thanks for the additional photos.

    I still say it's not a RPD.

Either the '9' has been shaved, and that

portion pushed on top of the 9, or some

other damage occurred to the well-circulated

    coin.

I'm certain that what we see was not on the

coin when it left the Mint in 1907

    Fred,

Would you have time to look at the 1907-O Dime in hand at winter FUN if I brought it with me?

    Thanks, Jon

With 2 areas of oddity directly opposite each other, it would seem to be someone having some fun years ago rather than a RPD. And both of these areas have some similarity in the round shape. If it were just one thing it might be more believable. Could such a glaring oddity, if mint made, have gone unnoticed for 109 years?

I like the idea of blobs of solder that were worked into those shapes.

I say PMD, too. Looking at the leaf atop Liberty's head, it is thinner than normal, which as indicated previously means that someone shaved it and modified its position.

I don't go to the Winter FUN show (but I always do the January FUN !)

.....so I won't be able to view the coin at that show for you. There should

be some knowledgable people there, both collectors and dealers, who can

look at the coin for you.

I'd suggest showing it to David Lange at the NGC table........
