These are going for $550 each with only 250 made. Are they worth it?

First day, is even more ridiculous than first strike, which is not even really first struck, it is just that it sold in the first month. Why would anyone pay extra for first sold and a new paper label? I might pay $200 for one, but I don't even like the idea of supporting these scams.

No way I'd every buy one of those abominations, never mind the gimmicky MS-70 First Day labels (and I'm an avid REAL mercury dime collector). I predict we will see them for melt + 10% in a few years...

Rumor has it that Dimeman is cornering the market on them.

Only if you collect labels and you believe there will be even more label collectors in the future.

I bought PCGS green label FS SP69 for $238 and I'm very happy about it.

For me, that seems like a lot to pay for a fancy piece of paper inside a piece of plastic containing a coin I could get cheaper without the fancy piece of paper.

Guilty as charged. I buy their professional opinion on the quality of the coin. I refuse to pay extra for their variety of labels for that coin.

    My (biased) opinion...

The David Hall signed (hand signed inserts by DH) with roughly a similar "pop" should be just as desirable since a "ton" of the coins shipped out First Day as well. They trade at about $325.

    Just my two cents.

My opinion - and yes, just mine... is that labels are for flippers and amateur collectors...they are basically meaningless in true numismatics. But, to each his own...... Cheers, RickO

Did they make gold dimes 100 years ago?

Oh that wasn't the question asked but the answer is the same.

Nope. You can't manufacture a true rarity, although the third-party grading services are doing their darnedest to make you think so.

Will they EVER be worth more than $550? Probably not, and the probability of them going MUCH lower is quite high. I doubt they will become a bullion item, but you never know, especially if gold goes to $3500.
