I struck GOLD today!

I am a flight attendant and am always on the lookout for coin shops/dealers etc. on my overnight layovers. A couple of years back, I had a San Francisco overnight and walked over to Millbrae, a small community near the hotel where I was staying. I came across a jewelry store that also sold coins and found this 1880-S Morgan in an old NGC 3rd generation holder. I really liked the look, the booming luster, and especially the color. After a bit of negotiation, I purchased the coin, NGC MS65 for kinda strong 65 pricing at the time.....but I really liked the coin. Did I mention that I really liked the coin?
Anyway, I met a dealer locally who offered to send some of my collection to CAC. I sent in 11 pieces, and 8 of them stickered. My '80-S came back GOLD. I think this might be the beginning of my box of 20.
I am still working on the photography, but I hope you all can get a glimpse of what I saw in this coin when I bought it. The color is nowhere close to being a monster, but the subtleness to me makes it a WOW coin.

The dealer friend who sent these in for me offered me an 1891-CC PCGS MS63+ green beaned Morgan for it when I picked up my coins. I think I am going to pass right now.

Awesome. My favorite holder with my favorite sticker. The coin is a 67 with average toning. I would take the offer myself. an 1880-S in 66 or 67 is not nearly as sought after as a 91-CC 63+ CAC. Value wise it is a Heck of an offer. The 91-CC 63+ CAC is probably a 64 on a good day.
Nice job on snatching it a few years ago!
And congrats on 8 out of 11 beans. please share more if you are ever feeling generous

I agree. I'd probably take that trade.
Should it remain in an old NGC 65 holder with a gold CAC or be resubmitted in hopes of a 67 ... oh the humanity!
Nice coin and holder, BTW!

Considering that generic ms67's are $600 coins and the 1891-cc ms63+ cac I would pay over $700 for...
Then again if its for my personal box of 20 then I might say no.

you gotta ask yourself, do you like the soap bar with a gold sticker ms65 or a new holder ms67/68 green sticker? that generation isn't rare from what i've seen.
that coin has ridiculous potential. (from the images)

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Thank you all for the kind remarks re my 1880-S Morgan. I'm really not sure what I might do with it long term, but for the short term, I believe I will continue to enjoy it as is.
By chance would that have been Numis International?
I had to do google maps because it was a while since I was there, but yes, I did buy it at Numismatic International. If my memory serves me, they didn't have a lot of inventory in their cases, but when I saw this one, I went down the street to Wells Fargo, got out some money and went back and bought it.
