From the Big Dance to a Small stepping...

Hi guy's, It's just funny how I just experienced the big Gala of the Central States Show in Schaumburg Il. To the small and intimate surroundings of a show in Countryside Il. What a difference! I know most of you deal with this all the time but for me, It has been a long time. Esp. so soon after the Central States. The Central States, one needs a whole lot of patience and perseverance to accomplish what your set out to do. Several sit downs are needed at the Big Dance (my poor knees). After hours and hours, still not completing your goal. More in abundant of the big shots and more famous dealers.
Now as to the small show at Countryside, It took me only one hour to seek my goal. Before I knew it, I've already visited every table! You're probably thinking, " so, what's the big deal?" "One show is big and the other is small." It just floored me for that moment. but you know what? That little show in Countryside, was more enjoying, more pleasant. Less drama and less complicating than the Big ones. Thanks for hearing me out and reading my thoughts. -joey

Ive never been a huge fan of shows the require a map to find the dealers that interest me. Yes, some of the mega shows can be fun and are a great experience, but they you dont get to have the same buyer/seller connection that you get in small shows.

Yes, I agree. Also, at the big shows, is it me or does it seem that some dealers are trying to get rid of you if not buying anything quick enough? I understand if other people are at their tables with you but when nobody else is around?image

One of the beauties of big shows is that they have show programs that have bourse floor maps in them. You can use these to mark dealers not to visit in the future. They also usually put these online so that you can mark maps before you get to a show. This will shrink the size of the bourse fairly quickly, allowing for a less frustrating show and more time for hanging out which people and coins you like.

There is a simple fix for this...at least for me. The first thing I do at a BIG show is get the guide with the dealers list. I go thru and get the table numbers of my favorite dealers and write them down on a small piece of paper. I visit all of these first and then start the row by row search.

I enjoy all sizes of shows but there is a particular excitement I feel walking into a big (FUN, ANA, NYINC, etc.) show.

I need to get out more, like you, Joey. I agree with you on the smaller shows. I tend to enjoy them a bit more too.
    Happy hunting, Joey

I like coin shows of all sizes.... particularly since there are no shows where I live now.

Base hits and bunts work just fine. It would be nice to hit 'em out of the park at every game, but just being in it (the game) has plenty of rewards, aside from the glamor & glitz, or bench clearing brawls.
... and a good client base helps, when sliding in.

a large show like Central States requires a plan. absent a plan, I suffer from sensory overload!!!
