I would say AU details. Post your dirt finds and let's play guess the grade.

Thanks for that assessment. I know it's got a lot of environmental damage. Would love to see more coins that are found by the diggers to continue on the thread without particular attention to the first coin, but all subsequent postings of photos from "detectorists".

That coin (first example) was brought in by a metal detectors, and it was his prize find so I had to step up a little to do the deal. Incidentally, offered the guy $30 to get the trade. He had $xx. in 90% on a trade in for an American gold eagle.

On that note, I enjoy the diggers' tales. They're a fun part of the hobby. Just "hearing" about the hunt.

I agree it's XF details, with you telephoto1. Maybe an AU details coin. I can see so much of the strike with the stars that the fields seem to have evidence of what was luster... Who knows if a brand new coin from 1833 got dropped ? On this note : he refused to tell me where he hunts. image

    Show your digs.

Many MD'rs will not disclose their sites that yield older finds. Rightfully so... since an area is

never really 'hunted out'... I am a cache hunter, and we NEVER reveal sites OR finds... too much

    potential for litigation. Cheers, RickO
