Glavine Tiffany RC question

I was curious why there are so few PSA 10's on Glavine's 88 Tiffany RC vs Maddux 87 Tiffany RC (currently over 400)

Is Maddux just that much more popular? Did 87 produce that many more Tiffany cards? Or is 88 just a tough year for 10's making Glavine's card in a 10 that much rarer.

Thoughts?

    Is 87 Topps overproduced? image

I think it is a combination of the two. They both are popular among Braves fans, but Maddux is far more favored by collectors and card companies. The master sets reflect this with 645 items in Glavine's master set compared to 1804 in Maddux's.

Most likely not a question of production, rather player popularity

Just based on some quick eBay searches, I don't think it's popularity. Not sure if it's production #s or tough 10s, but there's 2.5x as many 87s for sale as 88s (no player specified).

A wise man once posted on here that there were 30,000 87 Topps Traded Tiffany sets made and 25,000 88 Topps Tiffany sets made. Not a huge difference

Popularity seems to make the most sense.

Decided to play with the pop numbers a bit. Pop percentages seem to shift between cards but the shift doesn't seem to be enough to support the "tough 10's" theory.

    Maddux 10''s - 2599 417 16%
    Maddux 9's - 2599 1478 57%
    Glavine 10's - 483 42 9%
    Glavine 9's - 483 245 51%

I think it is mainly due to the centering. I have about 50 of the Glavine Tiffany rookies....and all are off-center in one or both directions. The 1988s also tend to have more rough cuts than the 1987s. Another factor is with Glavine being the only high dollar rookie in the larger set, people don't feel it is worth cracking the set to gamble that the 1 card will be suitable for grading.
