Seems like quite a few of the planchets are broken, which is a real shame. I know bakelite and plastics are fragile, but man do I wish people took better care of these treasures!

As part of the testing process many of the experimental pieces were deliberately bent to see if they broke, and if so how hard it was to break them. Apparently a small quantity of these were then saved to show the results of the test. They are considered collectible as is.

Thank you; I didnt know this. A few years back I saw one slabbed as about uncirculated, and it was in two pieces. I guess this fact that they were broken deliberately is factored into the grading process.
