Coin show report from the Thrilla in Tukwila!

LakesammmanLakesammman Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭✭
Can't believe there aren't any other reports out there! image

Went Sat. and Sunday to the PNNA show in Tukwila, WA.

There was a pretty good representation of dealers there - many of the usual local folk, several from Idaho, one from New Orleans, LA. Many of the tables had pretty generic stuff, bullion, etc. Others had some fun stuff to look at.

I didn't see much in the way of collectible holders. Perhaps Bochiman, Airplanenut or SeattleSlammer or Swampguy beat me to them Friday? There was a sorry looking Peace Dollar Doily MS61 that's been failing to sell on eBay forever. It's the first time that I can recall not seeing a forumite at the show!

Had a chance to chat with more dealers today since it was raining pretty hard this AM and attendance was weaker. Charmy wasn't taking pictures and won't be doing a show report - heading to another show shortly.

Good time talking with Jim Sego and how the QA program is going.

Great time talking with Jerry Bobbe, a former grader at PCGS in the 80's. Lots of good stories and has a great eye for silver dollars so I bought a couple OGH Peace dollars with really nice original skin.

Sold a 2011 25th Anniversary set - couple of the coins had milk spots so was happy to move them along.

Found some generic gold for a decent price, bought 3 pieces for less than what HA charges their Legacy clients.

Overall a good time, much more fun than mowing the lawn! image

That was the first NW show where I didn't bump into a forumite on my side of the table

No Saint is "generic" to the poor man! Let alone a 66! image

I was there Friday for a few hours. Enjoyed it. Didn't buy but sold all sorts of stuff: some old Prussian gold "bullion" to John Howe, a Walker to Revick/WestCoastCoins, a Woodchopper '07 note to Emporium
/Minnesota, a toned Morgan to Steve/RentonCoin....got good (fair) prices too so I was very pleased.

Did you see Sego's amazing 66 DCAM 3Mark?! .... absolutely the most visually impressive coin I saw all day on the floor. NFS!!!

I talked a bit to Bochi and said hi to Charmy, but that was it for my forum member interactions.

Looks like a great time! And nice pickups. IMO any Saint pickup is a great day. Side by side I would think there would be a night and day difference between a 4-6 in the same date. What say you? Jerry was one of my class instructors at ANA int grading years ago. I haven't forgot a thing that guy taught. Would love to visit with him again anytime. Thanks for posting the report.

WI - Pretty hard to compare 64's to 66's with a phone camera - the 66 is clearly much nicer than the 64's. When it comes to generic Saints, I don't really work too hard looking for upgrade candidates - just look at it as bullion to sell into a future sight unseen market. Would love to take a grading class from Jerry. We even had a good chat about collectible holders.

SS - no, I missed that one.... shoot. I tend to not see world coins unless they are Swedish. image

Nice pickups Sammm. One of those Peace dollars looks real creamy.

I wad able to hit the floor for a few hours Saturday, and saw alot of the usual suspects. It was nice to see dealers from out of state bring material we havent seen before. The dealer from Louisiana cut me a deal on a few Roosies; nice guy too. A dealer from Colorada gave me a fair price on an 1877 cc seated quarter in Pc vf30. I ended the day burying myself in a gem cac 1884 morgan with nice turquoise color. 'boy she pretty.

All in all good show. There seemed to be a good turnout. I had plenty of fun; just wished I had more time.

Anyone see the BTW half at JMS's booth? I think it was his buddys coin, but what a jaw dropper.

Wish I could have made it... I had some free time on Friday and hit a local coin shop here in town, the shelves were barren! All their inventory had been taken to the Tukwilla show and I was pretty bummed the rest of the day.
Nice Saints Lakes! Jerry is always fun to talk with, he sure has some incredible stories.

You got better than I did.

I was on a very limited amount of time on Friday (my son had a basketball tournament in Portland Fri-Sun (we just got home)).

I did a quick sweep, tried to view what I could, and say hi to the dealers I know, but then had to run out. Wish I could have spent 4-5 hours, but I couldn't.

Jerry always has some nice stuff....I didn't get the chance to visit with him and see his wares this time image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I was there for a few hours on Friday. As Lakesammman mentioned in the OP, there was quite a bit of generic gold, but not a lot of older non-generic gold, thus very little material available for my main SF-gold set, so I ended up just selling a few duplicates to Revick/West Coast Coins, chatted a bit with Glenn Holsonbake, and picked up a few small items including this trade dollar and USPI centavo:

I was also back on Saturday for about an hour, three-year-old in tow. I can't do much serious searching in these situations, as she drives the agenda. She likes to get the elongated cent, do the scavenger hunt, and then look for "coins with animals on them" until her attention wanes, then she hits up the slides in the play area right outside the Tukwila building. ;-)

It was great to see you Lakesamman, as well as SeattleSlammer, Bohiman, and Airplanenut. And thanks for doing a report, it's always appreciated. I love the Pacific Northwest, and it was so beautiful this weekend, with very mild weather. And of course, it was great to see my brother!

I just got in last night from the show and am headed to Central States in the morning, so I knew I wouldn't have time to put together a report for this show, but I plan to do one for Central States.
