You never know....a chance encounter leads to...

Visiting our grand daughters in Colorado Springs, for the 4 year old's birthday celebration this weekend.

Great Grandma, Grandma (my wife), Mom (our daughter), and three grand daughters went shopping on Friday. So did I! (but not with the ladies!!)

Visited two of my favorite coin shops in Colorado Springs - Colorado Coin Galleries at 3910 Maizeland Road and Hallenbeck Coin Gallery at 711 N. Nevada Avenue.

Whenever I travel, try to seek out a coin shop to interview the people that work at the shop. THIS has always been fun for them, but especially for me. Very interesting to watch their eyes light up when you ask about "what prodded them into numismatics" or "what series do you collect" or "what is the neatest item you have seen".

Interviewed Chad at Hallenbeck Coin Galleries on this trip. (will post the interview later) During this conversation, I mentioned that our local coin club was trying to attract new members, especially, young numismatists. Advised that I recently became reacquainted with Boy Scouts, so that I could help local troop members earn their coin collecting merit badge. Chad mentioned that Ken Hallenbeck was on premise and rewrote the Boy Scout merit badge information. Chad promptly walked me upstairs for a brief introduction.

While Ken was speaking to some other people, another, rather tall gent, and I began speaking to each other. Terry Carver introduced himself to me. (interview to follow later) Terry advised that "National Coin Week" started April 17 and should try to attend because of our grand daughter's birthday. https://www.money.org/numismatic-ev...al-coin-week

Grandma, two grand daughters, and I went to the " ANA Money Museum" at 818 N. Cascade Ave on the CSU Campus.

Timing was perfect for the 10:30 am opening. Grandma was filling out the registration for the drawings and the young ladies starting put the variety of items in their bags at the from the registration desk. During this registration, Robert Kelley ( ANA Museum Specialist and Photographer) introduced himself and asked if he could take a couple pictures. A "couple" pictures turned into multiple at various exhibits at the Money Museum. Kids are young, but truly had a wonderful time.

The magnifiers stationed at the 1804 Dollar and 1913 V nickel were favorites of theirs.

Standing on the podium at the Olympic display was another highlight. Rob took a couple pictures of the girls with stand in Olympic medals.

GREAT presentation by Steven Roach, 2015 Young Numismatist of the year about how coins are made. From raw ingot, rolling sheets, punching the planchet, making the edge, and stamping the coin. Excellent job!!

If anybody has the chance to visit the Money Museum, it will be well worth your time. Would HIGHLY recommend setting aside 3 hours minimum
