For some reason, the prongs looked a different color and smaller to me than usual.

The problem with seated coinage is there are way too many varieties.

Liberty Seated; No Motto Above Eagle
Liberty Seated; Modified Reverse With Large Letters in Legend
Liberty Seated; Arrows at Date; Rays Around Eagle
Liberty Seated; Arrows at Date; No Rays
Liberty Seated; Variety 1 Resumed; With Weight Standard of Variety 2
    Liberty Seated; Motto Above Eagle
    Liberty Seated; Arrows At Date
Liberty Seated; Variety 4 Resumed; With Weight Standard of Variety 5

Are the "7" and "6" repunched to the North? (Original, underlying digit is lower than the over punched digit)

    Your 1876 is a Type I Reverse

This reverse style was used 1866-75 and transitionally in 1876-77

TO, not trying to nit-pick, I believe that the listing that you mentioned above are TYPES, not varieties which can number in the dozens if not hundreds.

    PCGS recognizes six Types in the Seated Half Dollar series;

    Type 1, No Drapery (1839)

    Type 2, No Motto (1839-1866)

    Type 3, Arrows & Rays (1853)

Type 4, No Motto, Arrows at Date (1854-1855)

    Type 5, With Motto (1866-1891)

Type 6, With Motto, Arrows at Date (1873-1874)

    Nice coin!

That's how it starts, you get one and end up liking it, then get another and another and before you know it, you're working on the series!

The fun is finding circulated seated halves with that look for other dates, especially the 1860's. Be patient, they do show up every now and then.

The Liberty Seated designs are truly an aesthetic masterpiece, equal parts simplicity and timeless, understated beauty.

You have a great looking example there.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

Not that I can tell. I looked at it pretty good but I see no evidence of a re-punched date.

My list comes from the Redbook, where they refer to them as Varieties.

Same thing only different I guess
