Numismatic Seminars Inc.

stealerstealer Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭✭
I recently purchased a coin that came with an old PNG certification slip as verification of a sale from Ron Gillio to some company called Numismatic Seminars, Inc.

Does anyone know what these guys were or did?

Is it actually a piece of history to keep? Honestly, I was planning to tuck the certification away in some forlorn corner of my room, to be forgotten forever image

Ron Gillio is still around, if you want to test his memory. I doubt that the enterprise he sold to is though. image

I don't have anything to offer about the cert, other than its kinda cool.

    What about the coin?

Is it holdered or in some kind of flip?

60/63 is a funky grade. Do you agree with it?

Thanks! The coin is a 62, with a 63 reverse, and it came in a small old screw-type 1.5x1.5 plastic holder

Still looking for info on Numismatic Seminars, Inc image

Yes, the cert itself is collectable, especially with the coin still included. Please tuck it into an archival plastic sleeve and sell them together.

Now researching NSI comes up a little incestuous...

    https://bizstanding.com/directory/CA/NU/332/

.... it's an inactive business, registered in 1984 with a Dennis Gillio as Pres.

    https://www.corporationwiki.com/California/Santa-Barbara/helvetia-trading-corporation-of-america/41412410.aspx

.... Helvetia Trading Corporation of America (Ronald Gillio) with NSI listed as at the same address (along with Emi Gillio associated with "Gillio Rare Coins & Fine"

    BStrauss,

Thanks, I really appreciate that information!

I will look for a proper holder for the certification and coin.

the word, "adjectival" in the legalese, LOL

My favorite term of art in this context is "puffery." FWIW, I didn't see much, if any, improper "adjectival" descriptions in the cert. The disclaimer is, of course, seeking to disclaim a warranty as to grade "Mint State 60/63" and the other language in the cert. bolsters that disclaimer.

That's a lot of words around a coin. I'd just ask you if you liked it for XX amount since it costs XXX amount. And then came consistent (relatively speaking) graders who were experts and then there was God.

There was a texas dealer who would make those certificates read any grade you wanted.
