Hoping in that surge of Silver!

joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 17,332 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi guy's I don't know about you but I just purchased 2lbs. of Silver recently at $14-$15 an oz. and something tells me that Silver will surge back up very soon? I'm hoping anyway? As I am typing, Silver looks to crack that $17 mark. It has been awhile since it hit that. Many dealers hope it stays down.(at least that's what my dealer friend tells me) How 'bout you guy's? What would you prefer?-joeyimage

I think many here and elsewhere prefer it reach prices that were bought into so they can unload their stack and move on.

If it should sustains $17 for more than a week, I'll be surprised but yes, I'm pleased.

I'm with you on that note.

For what reason would a dealer hope that the price stays down?

My dealer friend said, because of the lower price, more reason to buy(mainly, bullion) in bigger quantities from customers.

So the longer the price stays low, the more likely stackers/speculaters are to get frustrated and sell out cheap?

What i meant was the customers will buy in bigger quantities from the dealer.

A guy named Morgan came in today and got his last silver Roosevelt dime for his collection. A 1954 S. For $2. I suppose that's a rip off considering it's just a dime. image

I've been playing around with silver since the Hunt brothers tried to corner the market. After all these years all I know is that the price will rise and the price will fall. The idea is to buy low and sell high. Easier said than done. I do know one thing. When the average Joe is talking about the price of silver and gold and saying they might buy some, that's a clear time to sell.

In my store days, it was MUCH busier when the price climbed. There were more sellers, and it seemed, the more costly, the more people wanted to buy also.....A stagnant, low price, like we've seen for years was of no use......
  • MilesWaitsMilesWaits Posts: 5,408 ✭✭✭✭✭
Crap, I was enjoying that stagnant price at four dollars an ounce.

A young collector entered the shop two days ago to buy wheat cents and loves searching for coins of value in lots he can buy in bulk.
He said he cherrypicked a $12 Barber dime out of another dealers "junk bin" marked at $4.. Then, he bragged how he chiseled the guy down 2 bucks to get it for $2. I was proud of him. He's a senior in high school and already savvy in negotiations.

Okay, enough coin tales. Back to the commodity image

Precious metal forum or not, the price of Silver had a direct effect on most of the "coins" which folks on the US Coin Forum Collect.

With each $1 per ounce rise, the cost of a roll of Kennedy's goes up $3+ bucks.

I have felt for some time, and been telling our customers, that the artificial ceiling was $16/ozt. which was being manipulated, and once it passed that the price would move. realistically, a ratio of 75-1 for Silver/Gold is unrealistic and unsustainable, my further point being that for the ratio to change one must go up or the other must go down. the smart bet is that Silver will go up since it has many more industrial uses. Gold is limited in that regard and aside from ornamentation seems only good for supporting a National economy. my thinking is that BRICS will try to manipulate Gold and the sooner-or-later emergence of Solar Power will drive Silver, along with other manufacturing applications. once prices increase a little more the mining will start again and balance out any Gold shortages, but Silver demand should still increase. JMHO, of course.

as to buying high or low for a dealer, it is really about averages

I have learned that my ability to make accurate predictions is non-existent.... so I have tried

to avoid that trap...I now just enjoy watching the market rise and fall for silver and gold...and take advantage of prices when an opportunity presents itself. Cheers, RickO

I know what your saying Ricko, but one can't resist when you get that gut feeling about a certain thing, right? Esp. when it hasn't happened in a while. Oh well, time will tell. There is nothing worse when your told later," I told you so!"image

Gonna be crowded. That's my number, too.

Unloaded a bunch at $37 and 28 but stuck too long in a fantasy.

I will NEVER buy silver again.

Glad it is dwarfed by my gold.

I only bought the stupid stuff from getting "caught up" in the disease of my customers in the shop.

    I shudda knowed better.

Customers ARE always wrong in a coin shop. On metals anyhow.

The smart money always sticks with ...GOLD!

    Silver? Bleah!
