Would these have been small mottoes?

I do'nt think the rebels will come this way. they have gone towards Washington.

Comparing the sizes of the two cent piece images to the sizes of the stamps, it is obvious that those are just blowup pictures, and not necessarily of the original coins.

The original coins could have been Large or Small Motto, most likely Large.

Yes, the "coins" are just photos added to the frame glass for decorative purposes.

The coins were authorized in April but I don't know exactly when they were first released. I figured July in Philadelphia might give one a decent chance of picking up a small motto. By August or September, they were probably all large mottoes.

A LONG time ago, when I was just a little boy starting out collecting pennies & nickels from change in my blue Whitman folders, a family friend sent me several old, worn 2-cent pieces.

I'm not sure why, but I've since always been intrigued by them, and did my best to complete what was such a short set. It's been forever since I've added any to my Whitman folder, and I still need to fill the 1872 hole.

One of these days, when I finally get around to it, I'm going to buy a real nice example (of one of the cheaper dates) in excellent condition......... just for show & to have around to appreciate.

It's a shame the series didn't last longer.

That is a great letter and it would be really awesome if the original two cent pieces were still

    with it.... Cheers, RickO
