    That's tough.

#2 looks a little meatier but I like the overall look of #1

I'll take either. Surprise me. image

Without knowing much about them and by only using the small photos...I would go with #2.

Both nice, as has been said, the 1795 appears to be slightly higher grade.

I'd like either one for my collection, this is the grade range I'll be shopping for, hopefully in the near future..

Ah but the top one was only FINE!

grrrr.... or as the label procalimed. Thus easing my foolishness into a sale of it.

But..... as compensation, the replacement is the OFF CENTER bust and that variety is one I've liked for a LONG time and haven't owned since they were $400 in the 1970s.

Take the second one- sell if. Take some of the proceeds and purchase the first one.

See, I'm one step ahead. I did it just the opposite.

I think they both should grade Fine and think the top coin (1796) has better color and overall eye appeal.

    1795 - more nest detail.
Either one would be great to have, though - they're pretty close.

I like #2 better. To me, the darker surfaces on #2 indicate better originality.

I like the 1795 in terms of eye appeal but it appears to have a rim bump near the 5 in the date. So if that is the case I'd go '96. If that's just a glitch in the image- then the 1795, hands down.

I like the look of the first coin but the date of the second.

    Wouldn't be disappointed with either.

  • BarberianBarberian Posts: 3,969 ✭✭✭✭✭
The first one. The second on looks to have a rim ding that will always draw my eyes to it.

    I HATE rim dings.

Based on those photos I would give the 96 the edge. Like the date and the 95 appears to have a rim bruise at 5 o'clock on obverse and appears that something is going on with rim at 11 o'clock on the reverse, but photos is too blurry when blown up. I look for nice rims with no brings so that does it for me. Just my preference. Maybe you can post larger photos when you get them? Like seeing the small eagles. Good luck!

Edit: Didn't see telephoto1 until after I posted, or page 2 for that matter. Oops!

The 1795 looks like it might have a little rim bump by the date, and if so, I just wouldn't enjoy owning it as much. I am also a fan of 1796-dated silver coinage in general. My vote would be for #1, despite the fact that #2 has a little more detail.
  • topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well I sold the 96 so that one is history.

My comp is that the 95 is off center and I've always liked that feature and don't know why.

In any event, it has demonstrated the difficulty in finding ANY bust buck with pleasing old color.

The 95 also has a drumstick. Yum.
