Over the years I have seen a few dealers heat seal their flips this way, particularly when sending coins on approval. I recall at least one dealer who had a 'die' made for their heat sealing device which contained the dealer's name - a rather unique and very difficult to duplicate touch. I haven't seen this done in a long while, however.

Years ago, I did that with 1 oz silver art bars that would not fit in the standard capsules. (either to thick, or slightly wider) Used the 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 SAFLIP "The coin holder Museums use" Worked great.

This would, of course, depend upon how long the coin was left in the flip. I am not sure if there would be any potentially harmful outgassing from non-PVC SaFlips, caused by the heat sealing.
Dealers used to include a disclaimer with coins shipped in flips (typically PVC flips in those days) stating that the flip was intended only for short term storage, and that it was recommended that the coin be removed from the flip as soon as possible.

I don't believe so. I have German 10DM proof coins that are in non PVC SAFLIPS. Earliest one is from 1972 and the last one from 2001. Coin appearances have not changed in all of those years...no toning or fading.

I've put standard U.S. denominations in a 2 X 2 Saflip (non-vinyl) and then placed that in a 2-1/2 X 2-1/2 vinyl flip and heat sealed the overlapping edge of the vinyl outer flip before shipping. I've had dealers ship coins to me in flips that were just sealed with tamper proof foil tape. Works just as well as heat sealing.

By the time the damage is done, if any, it will be well pass the return policy period.
What few raw coins that I have sold in the past, yes, I have used a heated element to seal the flip.
