Are high auction reserves a sign of a weak market?

High is a relative word. When no one bid at the opening price, we said the reserve is too high. This happens on up market and down market. During up market, owner could still place a sky high reserve to find one buyer gets hooked image

In short, I don't see high reserve means down market. I saw very low prices on sold items means down market.

It depends largely on the coin and how often it makes an appearance- I would rather refrain from making a broad generalization

Last few items Ive wanted at auction didnt make reserve. Other coins of the same type in the same auction without reserves went for 15-30% less than previous sales. The weakened market has been a blessing for some a curse for others.

Reserves are the minimum for which a seller will release a coin.... This usually includes a bit

of profit, but at least covers investment....anything above is gravy. Cheers, RickO

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
