I'm split on this one. What do the masses think?

I would like to see the coin in hand just to see if the image captures the real look of the coin

From those photos I can't tell. Looks devoid of life & luster. The grey regions in the fields and high point irregularity make me think mid-range AU. Overdipped?

60/61 on a good day.....58 on all the others. Can't say I see anything that is blatant wear. And while the luster is not bold, it's covering what it needs to.

If it comes back MS I think it will be a 63. That being said it could be somewhat of a slider...tough to tell if the hair over the ears is the result of a weak strike or minor wear. Some marks on the face and chatter in the obverse fields., maybe AU58 if not MS. I know it sounds like I am hedging my bets but tough to tell the luster etc. from the photos. Thanks for posting!

It's well struck, but the grey tone in the picture seems off to me.
It looks flat and without any luster.

    I voted 58

Coin looks like a legitimate AU 58 to me. This is exactly the kind of coin they like to "market grade" so if submitted, anything goes.

It could go either way, low ms or high au. The large photo tend to be more critical of marks. The reverse looks clean but the toning lends toward the high au look.

Thanks for the opinions, all. Maybe I should have mentioned the coin is not yet certified, and I probably won't bother with it now. My gut said 58 but I thought it might stretch to UNC.

I would graded it AU55 provided it has sufficient luster in hand. If not, I can see it grading lower as a "net" grade.

    I would say MS60.....Cheers, RickO

    No Brian,

The luster break on the eagles breast is the biggest give away. The flatness behind the ear on an "S" mint coin is also.
