New Purchases: Kissing Cousins

Not as old and crusty as I'd like...but the best I could do with my current bankroll and the available inventory...

CharlotteDude -- You're probably right...I may have posted the 1839-P before...picked it up at the last Heritage auction...and if you have any spare 1839-C you don't want...just send my way...they would make a nice trio...LOL...

The 39-D half eagle is very underrated and a really great date. I really dig the obverse mint mark. Although the mintage is considered on the high side for D mint coins (around 18K if memory serves me) it is very scare in low AU and quite rare in high AU and MS. The 39-D $5 with obverse mint mark is a single year type and as such in very high demand by Dahlonega collectors. Yours looks to be a very nice example and I would sure like to see a better image as I can't see enough of these. Congrats!

I totes agree with you, JR. They would make a gorgeous trio, unfortunately mine is but an XF-40, picked up @ 12-13 years ago at a B'more show.

Those two ( plus the C ) are amazing in that state of preservation.
A good friend recently started a set of Liberty Fives and although he
has made a small dent into the set, it'll take him years to complete.
Many of the coins are just non-existent in AU-MS grades.
Thanks for sharing with us. I'll tell my friend to look up this thread.
I know he'll enjoy it very much.
