A coin dealer on my old dealer-to-dealer network posted this as part of an ongoing series of postings about doing business on eBay vs. other venues:

.

"Here's a good one from a CALIFORNIA watch buyer from ebay. I listed a near

mint condition 18k early keywind Howard a few weeks ago and low and behold

"the biggest collector on the west coast of Howard watches" (as he says)

states that he will offer me full book which is the best offer I will ever

get for the watch of $1210. I said "NO THANKS" it has about $2200 worth of

scrap gold. He proceeded to call me every name and that I'm a menace to the

watch collecting world to even think about scrapping watches. I gave him a no

RISK, no strings attached option: I said if the watch does not sell you can

visit my store and I will tear the watch apart in front you and weigh it - if

it has $1210 or less worth of scrap gold in in it the WATCH MOVEMENT AND ALL

GOLD IS YOURS FREE!

Needless to say the watch sold the very next day for $3450 to a REAL watch

collector out of Iowa."

Ah yes, the keyboard experts of eBay ! image

Had one of "them" recently message the shop about a rare certified CPG type coin variety on eBay, insisting that our price was double what it should be, and what could we do for them ? Needless to state, the request was ignored and shortly there after, it was spotted by a full time dealer who specializes in such, and it sold for the full CPG suggested price. image

It makes me wonder how old the book was he was using for his 'full book' offer.

Ah the undocumented keyboard experts..... so many out there.... It seems they are prolific in

every field of endeavor.... there are so many in the firearms field...gun club experts, gun store guru's...etc.... they are so basically ignorant that they are not even embarrassed when shown to be totally incorrect. Cheers, RickO

Had a few dealers and others treat me this way straight to my face. Then they say "you love your stuff too much". And I say " thank you ".
