How picky are you about the holder your coins are in?

Half PCGS, half NGC. Sold coins in any other holders as well as any "details" coins.
    Around 10% are CAC.

No worries. I buy the coin not the holder and prefer raw coins.

I buy the coin, but I prefer the PCGS holder simply because it is easier to clean up the scratches. NGC holders are nice in terms of presentation, but impossible to remove the dings and scratches. My collection is about 60 PCGS, 40 NGC, 76% of the PCGS are CAC, 74% of the NGC are CAC. Shows the holder does not matter, itis the coin that matters. Except for the scratch issue......

I don't worry about the slab until it's time to sell. I'm good with PCGS or NGC.

Yes...PCGS's Inventory Manager and Coin Facts are way over the top...can't be beat.

I don't really care what holder it's in while it resides in my collection.

When it's time to sell....then it surely matters.

Exactly this. I like having nicely toned coins in NGC star holders, but otherwise, I like the look of the PCGS holders. Either way I wouldn't cross one to get the other. I find consistency only matters when looking at a large group of them at once. One at a time it doesn't matter to me. I'd say around 75% of my Morgan set is PCGS but I participate in both registries.

For me, I like the overall presentation of the PC holder. Most of my core collection is in both services though and were collected before any of the prongs came out. I just love the look of full gasket holders and appreciate the OGH and Fatties the most. Now that I'm mostly focusing on unique high grade foreign, the secure PC holder is what most come in and I'm cool with that. Conders will always look best in NGC holders as that's how I remember seeing them from day one, maybe I'll evolve my thinking though.

I have over 200 certified coins. Out of the 200 only 9 are in NGC holders. Seven are Classic Silver Commemoratives with Prooflike designations, one is a Lafayette Dollar NGC MS64*, and the other is an NGC MS65 nicely toned Monroe that won't cross to PCGS at MS65. Not willing to take the loss on the coin if it crosses at MS64. I like the PCGS holders much better.

Having bought the majority of my coins based on what the seller and I have agreed the coin grades and its value, I'm very confident that that's the way I'll sell them and have for years. So why waste the money to crossover, have consistent plastic and risk having your coins under or overgraded or possibly ruined which will just cost more plus confuse the buyer when you go to sell. Most my coins have stayed just how I have received them after much collector interest and experience. I don't need to screw that all up with another's inconsistent opinion.

    It's really easy for me.

PCGS = CLCT + ANA = the business of bidness for your highness. Barring that, competition is good.

All of my coins are in PCGS holders. The primary reason is that if I ever choose to sell (and I change collecting philosophy about every 5 years), PCGS coins bring the most money when it comes time to sell. Buy the coin not the holder, but when it comes time to sell, PCGS will yield better results based upon past experience.

I definitely prefer PCGS. Nevertheless, if a coin grabs my fancy, anything goes at that point. It seems that too often you lose a whole grade crossing from NGC to PCGS and pricing in the market seems to have flat out accepted that as reality. I actually feel bad for the other TPG services because they seem so outclassed.
