The title of the thread says that I would like to buy an 1838-C $5 Classic Head gold coin...preferably in a PCGS/CAC holder...

good luck... tough coin to find nice. I have seen maybe 2 or 3 in 10 years.

An 1838-C $5 is a Classic Head. Liberty Head Half Eagles started with the 1839-C.
