All New, Integrated StacksBowers.com and iOS Mobile and Tablet Applications

Dear forum members,

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce that we have just launched our entirely new, integrated technology platform including website and iOS mobile and tablet apps.

You can visit the new website here: www.StacksBowers.com. Or download the apps to your iPhone or iPad here: App Store.

Here are some features that are sure to enhance your auction experience:

- New iBid Live technology: An enhanced live online bidding experience allows you to bid from anywhere in the world, in real time, and stream live audio and video from your computer or mobile device.

- View past sales results: Redesigned auction archives feature improved keyword as well as structured search functionality. Today the archives consist of 200,000 past prices realized and over the next coming months we will continue to add to our auction archive, eventually including past Bowers and Merena, Stack’s, American Numismatic Rarities and Teletrade auction records.

- New proxy bid functionality, enabled 24 hours prior to the auction session: Proxy bidding allows you to enter bids that will be executed live when that auction lot crosses the block.

- Customizable search features using various filters: Increased keyword and structured search functionality helps you find the items you are interested in quickly and easily, including denomination, type, country, grade, grading service, reserve status, etc.

- Past orders and consignor statements: Access your past auction orders and consignor statements since January 1, 2014. Any prior order or consignor statements are available upon request.

I encourage you to check out both the new site and apps and I welcome any feedback you have. You can contact me directly at Feedback@StacksBowers.com.

Thanks,
Brian

Congrats! Looks like quite the undertaking. Hope all goes well!

I'm sure there will be hiccups, but the website seems to be easily navigable and quite smooth. Looks good from what I can see!

How long do the 60% of us who don't use iPhones have to wait for an Android app?

just spent 1 minute looking over and firstly my username (which now required full email and not username) got me in immediately.

Every link I clicked immediately changed pages as appose to the old system which took 15-20 seconds.

    So far looks good image
may the fonz be with you...always...

Browsed around a little bit. Seems to be a big improvement from the much-derided version of the past. You need to duplicate the whole next/previous page UI on the bottom of the search results so we don't have to go back to the top of the page to go to the next page.

Yes, I thought the same thing. Would be a good addition.

  • Burton,

An Android app is one of the next features on our list. I'm not sure of the exact timing quite yet, but it will be in the near term.

    John,

Thank you for your comment. The "pager" bar stays at the top of the page when you scroll down. You should not have to scroll back to the top to find it. Just look up. Go ahead and let me know if that is not happening in your case, but that is how the site is supposed to act.

Looks like a great site. Do I really have to register for every single session of the Baltimore auction?

Brian - Three items of feedback after a quick look at the site:

    1. Neither the old or the new site allows you, from a category or browsing list, to right click on a lot and open it in a new tab. Being able to open a lot in a new tab allows one to quickly go back to a list right where they left off by simply going back to the previous tab. Don't know if that is a problem with my browser or operating system...?

    2. It also appears that one can only add an auction lot to their watch list by opening the individual lot and then clicking the "Watch" button. It would be nice to be able to choose lots to watch (maybe with a check box or something) from the longer browsing list in a "batch type" format. Can't remember if the old version allowed this or not but when you can't choose to watch from a list and each lot then has to be opened one at a time, it makes choosing lots to watch a very tedious process. HA.com is a great example of how to do this right.

    3. (For everyone) When I checked my profile, an old shipping address was listed and I had to change it again. Recommend everyone check their info in the profile section.

    Thanks again for the improvements.

#2 The star beside the lot number adds it to your watch list in the "longer browsing list".

#1 is absolutely spot on. I like to "right click and open in new tab" on multiple lots for later viewing, and there is no such link that allows that.

Regarding #1, usually all that's needed is pressing the link with your scroll mouse wheel. But it opens in the same tab. Agreed it's much more beneficial to open a new tab.

Thanks. I'm glad it isn't just me. This has always been a huge pet peeve of mine with the S/B site and is the #1 thing I would fix if I could. Well, that and getting an occasional coupon perhaps! image

Yes, I agree. It's annoying to have to scroll to the top to move to the next page.

I would love it if a larger image was presented when mousing-over a coin, as HA does.

Will coin denomination filters be added to the left pane? A very useful feature. (Edit: I see you can do this with a few extra mouse clicks.)

Over all, a very nice improvement!

edited to add: my old address required updating again.

This will be interesting to review. It will be cool if the features work and are user friendly.

Hopefully it has gone through thorough testing and debugging. It sure would be nice to

have the ability to praise another company. I know many people had written this company

off...anxious to see how this plays out! Congrats on listening to people and making the effort

    to resolve those issues.

Bidding is painful. Every time I went to place a bid just now, I had to register for the auction over and over and over again. Hope this gets resolved.

Other improvements are nice so far, more to come...but the above is a deal breaker, needs to get fixed.
  • RichieURichRichieURich Posts: 8,537 ✭✭✭✭✭
    A big improvement.

One additional improvement would be that the customer should be able to register for all of the auction sessions at one time, not have to register for each individual session.

Additionally, when you open a lot, then return to the lot listing, it goes to the top of the page, not to the part of the page where you had been. For example, if you open lot 31, then

close it, the page now shows lot 1, and you have to scroll down to get back to where you were.

But overall, a lot better than before.

Agree that it's much better than before, although I hate to think what worse would have looked like.

Still MANY problems, in content as well as user experience.

At least this version identifies the folks that put it together (Auction Mobility), so anyone else thinking of doing business with them knows what they're getting into.

I talked to Wayne from StacksBowers today, and the Teletrade archives are on the list to be included - it will be a few weeks before on the StacksBowers website.

What was more interesting to me is the internet only auctions will return in next couple weeks. These will be mostly $200 - $2000 coins. There will be the 7-10 day bidding time, but instead of everything ending at a fixed time, there will be a 'live' auction. I figure this should help eliminate the site lag as many people were trying to get their snipe bids in for many lots at the last possible second...

The new SBG web site is neat. I look forward to spending more time exploring it.

Is there a way to download PDF versions of catalogues for current and upcoming auctions?

Also, I hope that Eliasberg, Norweb and Garrett coins will be listed in the archives. For those that have since been PCGS certified, the PCGS grades could be mentioned in the respective listings.

The site is a huge improvement. Having to register for each session seems a bit silly to me though. Not a big deal, but I can't imagine that being a good idea to continue.
